First Patient in the US Dosed in a Global Multicentre Phase 3 Clinical Study of Bevacizumab for treatment of Ophthalmic Diseases

HONG KONG, Feb 10, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – Essex Bio-Technology Ltd ("Essex" or the "Group", Stock Code: 1061.HK) today announced that the first patient in the United States (US) was dosed in a global multi-centre phase 3 clinical trial (NCT04740671) of EB12-20145P (HLX04-O), a recombinant anti-VEGF humanised monoclonal antibody injection jointly developed by the Group and Shanghai Henlius Biotech, Inc. ("Henlius", Stock Code: 2696.HK), for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD). Previously, the first patients in the European Union (EU) and Australia were dosed in the same global multicenter phase 3 clinical trial of EB12-20145P (HLX04-O). Meanwhile, the first patient has been dosed in a parallel phase 3 clinical trial in China for EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) for the treatment of wAMD.

This randomised, double-blinded, active-controlled, global phase 3 study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) with ranibizumab in patients with wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD). Eligible patients will be randomised 1:1 to receive intravitreal injection of EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) (1.25 mg) or ranibizumab (0.5 mg) every 4 weeks for 48 weeks. The primary objective is to compare the efficacy of EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) with ranibizumab at Week 36 in patient's study eye with wAMD. The primary endpoint is the mean change from baseline in the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at Week 36. Secondary objectives include the evaluation of other efficacy endpoints, safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profiles.

EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) is a recombinant anti-VEGF humanized monoclonal antibody injection constructed using genetic engineering technology independently developed by Henlius. EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) can inhibit VEGF's binding to its receptor Flt-1 (VEGFR-1) and KDR(VEGFR-2) on endothelial cells to inhibit the activation of its tyrosine kinase signalling pathway, inhibit endothelial cell proliferation and reduce angiogenesis, thereby treating eye diseases associated with angiogenesis. According to the requirements of ophthalmic drugs, the Company has developed EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) which optimizes the prescription, specifications, and production processes of HANBEITAI, assuming that the active ingredients remain unchanged. Through a series of comparability analysis, it is proved that the changes in the production process and prescription of the preparation have no adverse impact on the quality, safety and efficacy of the preparation.

In addition to the EU and Australia, the clinical trial applications of EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) had been approved in Singapore and other countries and regions. Essex and Henlius will jointly manage progressively the global multi-centre clinical trials of EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) and apply marketing authorization in China, Australia, the EU, and the US around the globe based on the research results. EB12-20145P (HLX04-O) has the potential to be one of the first bevacizumab approved for use in ophthalmic diseases, benefiting more patients with eye diseases worldwide.

About wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD)
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of visual impairment and blindness in the elderly worldwide [1]. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 30 million people have suffered from AMD globally, and about half a million people become blind due to AMD each year [2]. Wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD) is characterized by the formation of subretinal choroidal neovascularization (CNV) and is responsible for approximately 90% of cases of AMD-related blindness. Due to an aging population, wAMD has become a serious social medical problem and indicated a huge burden of unmet need [3]. With the development of treatment for fundus diseases, anti-VEGF drugs are becoming the first-line therapy for the management of wAMD [4], with the efficacy and safety of vitreous injection of bevacizumab for wAMD verified in multiple clinical studies[5-11].

Former Singapore Parliamentarian’s Swiss Digital Assets Company Receives Regulatory Approval

  • Calvin Cheng’s Damoon Technologies has obtained membership status from the Swiss Financial Services Standard Association (‘VQF’), which is officially recognised by the Federal Financial Market Supervisory Authority (‘FINMA’)
  • This comes on the back of Cheng’s Web3 Company obtaining the Virtual Asset License from the Dubai Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA)
  • Damoon will offer crypto-fiat-crypto payment services, as well as a digital assets custodian

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, Feb 10, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – Singapore investor and former parliamentarian Calvin Cheng’s Swiss company, Damoon Technologies (‘Damoon’) has been granted membership in the Swiss VQF, joining the ranks of some of the world’s leading digital assets businesses.

The latest development officially opens the door for Damoon to establish a presence in Switzerland. Thedigital assets company is building a platform for users to engage in crypto- to-fiat payments and vice versa, as well as a digital assets custody service.

VQF is the largest and oldest cross-industry Self-Regulatory Organisation (SRO) in the country and is officially recognised by FINMA, Switzerland’s financial services watchdog.

Damoon must now comply with Swiss anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. Thanks to this, the company is in a unique position to work with demanding clients and offer them a place that provides efficiency, security and regulatory clarity.

Calvin Cheng commented, “I believe in the future of digital assets, but this has to be done in accordance with traditional finance’s compliance standards. Switzerland is the pre- eminent global financial hub, and is the ideal place to base crypto-fiat-crypto financial services, as well as a trusted custodian.”

Recently, Damoon has also joined the Crypto Valley Association in Zug. “Crypto Valley Association are excited to welcome Damoon Technology and Mr. Calvin Cheng as members,” said a spokesperson for the organization.

Currently, Damoon is in the process of building its compliance and operational team in Zurich and Zug, Switzerland. The company expects to start operations by the end of Q2 2023.

Earlier in 2022, Cheng’s Web3 Holdings FZE was awarded the coveted provisional Virtual Asset License by VARA in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The license granted similarly promotes greater customer assurance and risk protection.

About Calvin Cheng

Calvin Cheng is currently the Chairman of Australia Stock Exchange (ASX) listed EdTech firm ReTechTechnology Co, which he led to an Initial Public Offering, together with leading investors from China.ReTech’s shareholders include several co-founders of Alibaba, as well as founders of other leading Chinese tech companies.

Rare Artworks by Picasso and UAE Royal Family Member to be Auctioned together for the First Time

DUBAI, Feb 9, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – The Rare Antiquities is revolutionising the way museums and galleries are presented in the web 3.0 space through their unique technology. By making high-value art available to everyone, regardless of the budget. It is the first platform to fractionalise a Banksy and distribute the fractionalised pieces as individual NFTs, customisable in size. They have live fractionalised auctions scheduled throughout 2023 for art and antiquities valued at over $1Bn.

To start off the year The Rare Antiquities will host one of their first auctions on the 12th of February 2023. The Red carpet event will take place in Sama L Ain Gallery in Dubai where three Picassos and one painting created by one of the members of the Ras Al Khaimah Royal Family will be auctioned for shared ownership. The main aim of the event is to allow the appreciation of art to rise through shared ownership by giving more people the opportunity to own a piece of it.

The painting that will be featured in the auction was created by Artist Noora Alredhwan, the Mother of Sheikh Humaid Bin Khalid Al Qasimi. It is dedicated to the 50 year anniversary of the UAE. During EXPO 2020 Dubai it was displayed in the UAE Pavilion for six months. Now, for the first time, it will be accessible for the public.

One of the paintings on auction features a lithography that Pablo Picasso created a few years after the end of the second world war, in 1949. Picasso was particularly passionate about this technique, where stone or metal are treated in a way so that it can be painted or printed on. Another one of the Picasso paintings was created in 1945, using the gouache technique with opaque watercolor, ink and wash on paper. One of Picasso's later works, "Like an animal", which was created in 1957 will also be part of the auction.

Ryan Howells, Founder of The Rare Antiquities, commented on the project and explains the motivation behind it: "The fractionalisaton of art represents a new paradigm fostering a new approach to the appreciation of art. Through this event we hope to bring together like minded people where they can enjoy what each art piece has to offer."

One of the hosts of this special event is Sheikh Humaid Bin Khalid Al Qasimi. This auction is not just about the art, it's about bringing to market a new way of sharing ownership of artwork that at any other time would be inaccessible to the majority of people.

"For us, art is an important channel to connect with society. It is about accessibility: One aspect of this initiative is that sharing our own artwork with the people brings us closer to the public. Another aspect is that technology enables shared ownership, which allows for more people to access this art," said Sheikh Humaid Bin Khalid Al Qasimi.

Mohamed Al Banna, initiator and mentor of the the initiative said: "The collaboration with The Rare Antiquities follows our mission of building bridges: On the one hand we're building a bridge between Royal families and the people through art, and on the other hand we create access to highly curated art, like the Picasso works, for a larger audience and not just a few privileged people."

The Rare Antiquities brings museums and galleries to the Metaverse with Rare City which also hosts districts for education, charity, crowdfunding and more. AURA Skypool Lounge, the world's highest 360 degree infinity pool, will now be made available to everyone through a digital space created in the Metaverse.

The move into the Metaverse for the destination is being curated by Rare City which is a part of The Rare Antiquities that leverages blockchain technology for the Rare City Metaverse. This is the first of many venues 'The Rare City' plans to bring into the Metaverse, allowing people to relive a memory, experience or a unique adventure from anywhere.

Hong Kong and UAE explore collaboration opportunities

DUBAI, Feb 9, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – A delegation of business leaders from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), led by the city's Chief Executive and principal officials and organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week to strengthen existing business ties and develop new areas of collaboration in technology, sustainability and smart city development, in addition to traditional sectors of finance and trade.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between HKTDC and Dubai Chambers.

Panel speakers discussed the opportunities for deeper UAE-Hong Kong collaboration at the business forum before a dinner for the Dubai and Hong Kong business communities.

With Hong Kong's unrivalled access to China and Asia and the UAE's role as a gateway to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and European markets, the relationship between the two commercial centres is already providing important benefits to a range of businesses.

The arrival of the high-level business delegation, which comprises senior executives from Hong Kong's financial institutions, financial regulators as well as major players in innovation and technology (I&T), sustainability and smart city solutions, will help accelerate the commercial ties between the HKSAR and the Emirates, and support the strategic development of the UAE, Hong Kong and mainland China.

The important strategic relationships, which exist between China and the UAE, are based on a shared backing for liberal trade policies, investment in cutting-edge technology, low tax regimes and backing for pro-business regulation.

A press conference was held on 8 February in Dubai, followed by a business forum and dinner in the presence of H.E. Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, H.E. Mr Abdul-Aziz Abdulla Al Ghurair, Chairman of Dubai Chambers and H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai International Chambers.

Hong Kong's Chief Executive Mr John Lee said: "The UAE is Hong Kong's largest trading partner in the Middle East region. We treasure this long-standing relationship, and I believe that we can now take it to a higher level. That's why I'm here, together with these business leaders from Hong Kong – some 30 strong – to tell you that our business and investment doors are wide open and welcoming for UAE companies and investors. For a world of opportunities."

"The commercial and political ties between Hong Kong and the UAE are growing ever stronger. It is clear we both approach business in the same way, backing innovation, investing in technology and looking for sustainable solutions. This business mission to the UAE shows the depth of existing commercial relationships and the potential to do a lot more."

In response, H.E. Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi stressed the strength and durability of the strategic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the People's Republic of China, which are witnessing continuous development, especially in the areas of economics and trade. The forward-looking and visionary leadership of the two countries is building a strong partnership, opening up new opportunities and broadening bilateral economic cooperation.

His Excellency added: "Strengthening investment and trade partnerships with Hong Kong supports the strategic cooperation between the UAE and China and contributes to opening new business fields, stimulating communication between the Emirati-Chinese business communities, especially in light of new economic opportunities".

His Excellency continued: "The value of foreign trade between the UAE and Hong Kong amounted to about AED32 billion (US$8.7 billion) during the first 9 months of 2022, achieving a growth of 36% compared to the same period in 2021, while Hong Kong was among the top 10 trading partners for the UAE during 2021, with a contribution of more than 2% of the UAE's total non-oil trade."

His Excellency indicated that the forum represents an important step in supporting increased trade and enhancing prospects for bilateral cooperation in a wide range of sectors, especially shipping, logistics, the service sector and air transport. It maximises benefits for Emirati companies and their counterparts in Hong Kong.

HKTDC Chairman Dr Peter K N Lam mentioned in his opening remarks that "Dubai and Hong Kong are natural partners, when it comes to creating business opportunities. The signing of three MoUs* at our event tonight shows the tremendous potential for deeper collaboration. Creating business opportunities has been the work of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council for over 55 years, and I am pleased to be part of these exciting times."

Representing the business community in Dubai, H.E. Abdul-Aziz Abdulla Al Ghurair, Chairman of Dubai Chambers, commented: "I am proud to say that the UAE is the largest trading partner for Hong Kong in the Middle East. Non-oil trade between the UAE and Hong Kong reached AED22.2 billion in the first half of 2022, registering 16.2% growth compared to the first half of 2021. With the presence of our new international office in Hong Kong, I look forward to seeing continued collaboration with our Hong Kong counterparts and seeing the relationship between our countries thrive and prosper even more."

In the trade delegation, Chief Executive Mr Lee is joined by three principal officials: Deputy Secretary of Justice Mr Horace Cheung, Secretary for Financial Services and Treasury Mr Christopher Hui and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Mr Algernon Yau.

Other business leaders from Hong Kong and the Emirates also exchanged views at a panel discussion yesterday. Chaired by Mr Yau, panel speakers included Mr Nicolas Aguzin, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, Dr Sunny Chai, Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and Chairman of the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Mr Horace Cheung, and H.E. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, Chief Executive Officer of Sharjah Research Technology & Innovation Park (SRTIP) and H.E. Faisal Juma Khalfan Belhoul, Vice Chairman of Dubai International Chamber.

* 3 MOUs have been signed between:
– HKTDC and Dubai Chamber
– Ho & Partners Architects, Negawatt, Masdar City, and The Catalyst
– HKSTP and Sharjah Research Technology & Innovation Park
