Acrometa to Focus on Laboratory Construction and Co-Working Laboratory Space Business

SINGAPORE, Oct 31, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – ACROMETA Group Limited (“ACROMETA”, or the “Company” and together with its subsidiaries, the “Group”), an established specialist engineering service provider in the field of controlled environments serving mainly the healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, research and academia sectors, today announced that the Board of Directors of the Company’s indirect subsidiary, Neo Tiew Power Pte. Ltd. (“NTP”), had on 27 October 2023 initiated the process to place NTP under Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation ( “CVL”). NTP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Acropower Pte. Ltd., which the Company has an effective interest of 56% in.

NTP was incorporated in February 2020 to produce renewable energy by converting biomass poultry waste into green electricity by the process of pyrolysis. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and changes to regulations for the safe handling of potentially dangerous animal waste products, NTP has not been able to commence operations.

The Group had extended significant loans to NTP and has decided it cannot continue supporting NTP. The directors of NTP had on 27 October 2023 resolved to place NTP in Provisional Liquidation, pending its eventual liquidation. Insolvency Practitioners from Alternative Advisors Pte Ltd were appointed as Provisional Liquidators. This decision arises from the inability of NTP to continue its regular business operations by reason of their liabilities.

Mr Lim Say Chin, CEO of AcroMeta Group said, “Conversion of poultry waste to green electricity is a fundamentally promising business. However, the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on construction as well as changes in regulations for the safe handling of animal waste products meant that the project would continue to require financial support and affect the Group’s allocation of resources.”

Mr Levin Lee Keng Weng, ACROMETA’s Executive Chairman, said, “The Board’s decision for the voluntary liquidation of NTP by Acropower reflects our current focus on expanding the laboratory construction and co-working laboratory space businesses, both of which are currently cash flow positive and show a promising future with an encouraging flow of business opportunities and projects in the last twelve months.”

In August 2023, the Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary Acromec Engineers Pte Ltd (“Acromec”) was awarded a S$19 million contract for the design and construction of a 1,500 sqm high containment biosafety level research laboratory. In October 2023, the Group’s 70% owned subsidiary company Life Science Incubator Pte Ltd (“Life Science Incubator” or “LSI”) entered into a Management Agreement (the “MA”) with HB Universal Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Mainboard-listed Ho Bee Land Limited, to operate and manage a co-working laboratory space at Elementum, One-North, a building in the heart of Singapore’s biomedical industry district.

Airlangga University Professor develops New Epilepsy Treatment

Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia, Oct 30, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – A medical professor at Airlangga University, Prastiya Indra Gunawan, has developed a new epilepsy treatment method that involves administering midazolam intramuscularly and intranasally.

Airlangga University professor Prastiya Indra Gunawan has devised a new treatment method that involves providing midazolam intramuscularly and intranasally to epilepsy patients.

The new method can be a solution for treating epilepsy, for which electroencephalography (EGG) examinations have been used so far. The results of those examinations are often misinterpreted, causing excessive diagnosis of epilepsy and prolonged use of antiepileptic drugs, which is not necessary.

“Intramuscular midazolam is able to stop seizures within 45 seconds, while intranasal midazolam is able to stop seizures within 42 seconds. This is different from rectal diazepam, which takes 180 seconds,” Professor Gunawan, a pediatrician from Airlangga University, said.

He has received recognition as a pioneer in changing the procedures for handling childhood seizures and has obtained intellectual property rights (IPR). Gunawan officially obtained the IPR in 2019 and 2021 based on the research and publications he carried out in 2015 and 2016.

Gunawan has made other advances in the field, having diagnosed epilepsy in patients who were drug resistant and had been diagnosed with other causes.

“In terms of diagnostics, the diagnosed cause was infection, the diagnosed cause was head trauma, but now, we are also developing diagnosis to include autoimmune. Indeed, we have been able to diagnose patients who have epilepsy with a resistance to drugs. We continued to look for it, and the cause is autoimmune,” he said.

Even after the cause has been identified, seizures that are resistant to adequate medication are still difficult to treat. In this case, according to Gunawan, surgery can be an alternative.

Unfortunately, not all health facilities can perform epilepsy surgery. With the current technological advances, Gunawan said it is necessary to build a comprehensive epilepsy service center, an idea which he shared at the N-20 Conference during the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022.

“The key to this epilepsy center is to assemble the right team with the right people who have the same approach to dealing with epilepsy,” he said. “The epilepsy center will not only be for treatment but will help address social stigma. Many people with epilepsy feel isolated by their environment, hampered in their careers, and feel they have failed in their home life.”

With the establishment of the epilepsy center, Gunawan said he hopes that people with epilepsy will not only receive healthcare, but also see improvements in their social life. He also invited everyone to work together to care for epilepsy sufferers.

Diet Choice Could Help Solve the Climate Crisis, Major New Study Finds

WINCHESTER, ENGLAND, Oct 17, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – In a major new study, prominent scientists from around the world have developed a new strategy for addressing climate change. The study “Proposed solutions to anthropogenic climate change: a systematic literature review and a new way forward,” published in leading scientific journal Heliyon, demonstrates that climate change solutions must include a shift to a more fundamentally plant-based diet and a global phaseout of industrialized animal farming. The authors also recommend the adoption of an “All Life” approach that recognizes the profound interconnectedness of all life on Earth and a global standardization of climate change metrics.

Solutions to anthropogenic climate change
Solutions to anthropogenic climate change

Our planet is in a state of emergency and we only have a short window of time (7-8 years) to enact meaningful change to prevent an eventual global climate crisis that will impact each and every one of the Earth’s inhabitants. To achieve this monumental task in such a short space of time, human activities cannot continue on a “business-as-usual” basis. And the data clearly indicate that we will not succeed without changes in the way that we eat and produce food.

“We must recognize that by solely focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to limit global warming, we are treating the symptom of the cause, and the cause is major global unsustainability. To achieve long-lasting transformative change, which will benefit current and future generations (and save our planet), we need to change our mindset and behavior as individuals, communities, businesses, governments, and global citizens,” says lead author Svetlana V. Feigin, Ph.D.

“Animal agriculture is not necessary (nor sustainable) to feed the growing global population,” the authors contend. Regarding the phaseout of industrialized animal farming, the authors propose “ending government subsidies for animal-based meat, dairy and eggs, and initiating taxes on such products to account for the wide-ranging externalized costs that are currently passed on to taxpayers, governments, societies and future generations.” Other actions include “more stringent legislation on animal welfare standards and divestment in industrialized animal agriculture.”

Also in the study, the authors introduce and discuss the concept of an “All Life” approach. An “All Life” approach emphasizes the protection of the “oneness of life” (humans, animals, plants, the entire planet), and emphasizes that our health, and the health of our planet, are intimately intertwined with the health and wellbeing of all living beings. It emphasizes the interdependence and protection of all life forms and shifts away from a human-centric paradigm to an Earth-centric paradigm.

We are running out of time to alter our current trajectory, and thus to enact meaningful change that will have a profound impact upon the future wellbeing of the planet and all of its inhabitants. Failure to act will ultimately result in a scenario of irreversible climate change, with widespread famine and disease, global devastation, climate refugees, and warfare following resource scarcity.

An Urgent Call to Scale-Up Access to Healthy Diets for the Most Vulnerable

THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS, Oct 17, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – The world is facing unprecedented global food and nutrition crises because of soaring food prices, regional conflicts, more frequent and intense climate-related disasters, and the lasting economic and societal effects of COVID-19. The near- and long-term adverse impacts of these compounding challenges threaten the health and future of vulnerable communities and are taking a particularly heavy toll on mothers and young children. The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, the Micronutrient Forum, Wageningen University & Research and Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) will be present at the Micronutrient Forum’s Sixth Global Conference.

The Micronutrient Forum’s Sixth Global Conference, Nutrition for Resilience, is a watershed moment for the global nutrition community. It will bring together an estimated 3,000 experts, leaders, and advocates from diverse fields to have the vital discussions needed to align priorities and action plans, as well as prioritize investments in nutrition.

Saskia Osendarp, Executive Director of the Micronutrient Forum, said, “This conference will be the catalyst we need for robust scientific discussions and policy dialogues. We have no more time. We must foster a renewed sense of urgency to facilitate alignment between nutrition and resilience agendas across sectors and make tangible progress towards global development goals.”

In a complex global landscape, the conference will explore the intricate link between micronutrient status and resilience, aiming to identify specific, concrete, actions that can support the most vulnerable, particularly women and children.

Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), said, “We are convening at a critical time in history when people across the world are increasingly experiencing economic, conflict and environmental shocks. We urgently need to create food systems that are more diverse in what foods are grown, where they are grown, how they are grown, and in the foods consumed. Diversity is the antidote to risk and is key to ensuring the nutrition status of vulnerable families is more resilient to the increased frequency and intensity of shocks we are witnessing today — and which we will continue to see in the next 10 years.”

Sjoukje Heimovaara, President of Wageningen University & Research, said, “Fresh insights from scientists, policymakers, and practitioners are very much needed to increase resilience through healthier diets. The Micronutrient Forum helps to shape and sharpen these insights, so all involved can accelerate action.”

Afshan Khan, Coordinator of Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN), said, “This is an invaluable opportunity for the SUN Movement and the governments implementing national nutrition plans to engage with academia, practitioners, civil society and business at the global level and share initiatives for improved nutrition outcomes. The micronutrient forum can propel further action and lead to financing for nutrition that supports both people and planet.”

In keeping with the Micronutrient Forum’s commitment to global knowledge equity, this conference promises to be the most accessible yet. It will provide a robust and interactive online experience alongside the in-person programme. All plenary, sponsored and concurrent sessions will be live-streamed, ensuring people can participate from anywhere in the world.

Taking this as an opportunity, E Medicine Manager has selected the “China’s Top 100 Pharmaceutical Innovative Enterprises” representing the innovation strength of China’s pharmaceutical industry every year since 2019 through model building, data collection and sorting, starting from the current situation of pharmaceutical innovation, with the enterprise as the main body and the hard data as the support, evaluating the enterprises based on four indicators, namely the number of authorized patents, the total number of patents applied, the number of clinical trials and the number of innovative drugs approved and launched through the three dimensions of innovation foundation, innovation process and innovation achievements, so far this selection has been conducted for 5 years.

The Top 100 innovative enterprises are the first-tier enterprises that represent the pharmaceutical innovation capability of China and the core competitiveness of the industry, the backbone to promote the transformation and upgrading of China’s pharmaceutical industry. The listing of Sihuan Pharmaceutical as one of the first echelon of enterprises is the recognition of the Company’s innovation strength, technical reserve and sustainable innovation ability, and the affirmation of the Company’s outstanding contribution in the development of the pharmaceutical industry.

This year, Sihuan Pharmaceutical and its subsidiaries have received good news constantly.
