BioMed X and Merck Expand Collaboration Aiming to Leverage Cancer-Specific Vulnerabilities for Targeted Therapies

HEIDLEBERG, Germany, Apr 4, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – BioMed X, an independent biomedical research institute, announces the start of its new research project – "New Strategies to Enhance the Immunogenicity of Tumors" – in collaboration with Merck. The focus of this new research group will be to develop novel approaches for enhancing tumor immunogenicity to broaden the population of patients who could benefit from cancer immunotherapy.

"What if we could overcome the immunosuppressive microenvironment of solid tumors with a novel targeted approach?" asks Dr. Christian Tidona, Founder and Managing Director of the BioMed X Institute. "This call for application is inviting original research proposals that explore new ways to enhance the immunogenicity of tumors and thus boost the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors," explains Dr. Tidona.

A high mutational burden, as well as aberrant mRNA splicing, are sources of neoantigens: unique antigens presented by tumor cells capable of eliciting an effective anti-tumor immune response. The most recently completed BioMed X project was also a Merck collaboration investigating RNA splicing patterns in cancer. "Using a new bioinformatic approach, we were able to query splicing variants that are unique to certain cancers," said Dr. Alexandra Duarte, former group leader at the BioMed X Institute. "Such splicing abnormalities can shape the complex pathophysiology of cancer cells, including through the expression of immunogenic neoantigens," added Dr. Duarte, now a Senior Scientist in the Department of mRNA Cancer Immunotherapies of Prof. Dr. Ugur Sahin at HI-TRON in Mainz, Germany.

The new project launched today, marking the tenth joint research group between the two partners, expands this line of research by targeting tumor-specific DNA Damage Repair (DDR) mechanisms or exploiting tumor-intrinsic DDR defects to increase the tumor mutational burden and immunogenicity. Researchers who are interested in becoming part of this new BioMed X research team in Heidelberg are invited to respond to this international call for application by submitting a project proposal via the BioMed X Career Space at https://career.bio.mx/call/2023-BMX-C01 before May 28, 2023.

AEON Credit Revenue Up 17.3% to HK$1,231.6 Million in FY2022, Sales Jump 32.7% and Receivables Surpass Pre-Pandemic Level Reaching Record High

HONG KONG, Apr 4, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – AEON Credit Service (Asia) Company Limited ("AEON Credit" or the "Group"; Stock Code: 00900) today announced its results for the year ended 28th February 2023 ("FY2022" or the "Reporting Year").

In FY2022, the Group's revenue increased by 17.3% year-on-year to HK$1,231.6 million, and operating profit rose by 25.8% to HK$556.7 million. Meanwhile, profit after tax recorded a 9.1% increase to HK$373.6 million during the Reporting Year, with earnings per share rising to 89.22 HK cents (FY2021: 81.81 HK cents). The Board has recommended a final dividend of 22.0 HK cents per share, bringing the total dividend for the Reporting Year to 44.0 HK cents per share, representing a dividend payout ratio of 49.3%.

The solid increase in revenue in FY2022 was mainly attributable to the launch of the Group's first ever cashback credit card, AEON Card Wakuwaku (the "Wakuwaku Card"), supported by successful mass promotion and brand building activities, which resulted in a significant increase in both credit card and personal loan sales, and thus interest income. The Group achieved an overall sales growth of 32.7% year-on-year, with the total advances and receivables balance at 28th February 2023 recording an increase of 36.5% when compared with the balance at 28th February 2022. The fees and commissions from the credit card business also achieved significant growth, up 38.8% due to the increase in credit card sales and the 'off-us' acquiring service for AEON Stores, which contributed to the rise in revenue as well.

The Group implemented a number of initiatives in a timely manner to achieve healthy growth in both sales and receivables and to maintain a quality portfolio during the Reporting Year, as consumer spending rebounded remarkably in Hong Kong in the second half year following the launch of a range of economic stimulus measures and the progressive resumption of overseas travel. In addition to the launch of several mass promotion activities, the Group engaged celebrities to promote personal loans and its "Wakuwaku Card" in a bid to attract a greater number of customers who predominantly shop online and are generally more knowledgeable about spending rewards and incentives.

Separately, for fee business, the Group has significantly increased the scale of its card acquiring business and continued to take on new merchants with relatively sizable transaction volumes and/or with multi-distribution networks. Moreover, the Group entered into a new distribution partnership agreement in the second quarter to expand its offline and online insurance sales channels, allowing the Company's customers to access and purchase a wide range of insurance products more conveniently.

To accelerate its digital transformation, the Group's new card and loan system project, net-member and mobile application systems, and data lake project were successfully launched in early March 2023, facilitating new payment solutions and the flexibility in offering product benefits, as well as easy access to even better data analytics tools and services.

On the sustainability front, the Group secured a sustainability-linked loan framework and entered into agreements for sustainability-linked loans (the "Loans") in the third quarter, with a total carrying amount of HK$320 million and each for a term of three years. The Loans form part of the Group's first sustainable financing initiative, and demonstrate the Group's commitment to sustainability by linking the interest margins of the Loans to the Group's environmental, social and governance ("ESG") key performance indicators.

Looking ahead, with the regulatory changes in the interest rate cap and the threshold of extortionate rate under the Money Lenders Ordinance, the Group is presented with opportunities to leverage its strong capital base to pursue business expansion and to acquire asset portfolios from competitors in the coming year.

In response to the evolving consumer finance behaviour in the wake of the Pandemic, the Group will continue to offer enhanced digital experiences and create more "value" for online purchases by offering cash rebates. It will also revamp its branch network to meet the needs of customers who seek face-to-face advisory services. Following the completion of upgrades to the card and loan systems and the launch of new mobile applications and a net-member platform; new services and rewards, including mobile wallets and virtual card solutions, will be continuously offered in the coming year to manage market changes and new customer needs.

As both the US Federal Funds Rate and the Hong Kong Prime Rate are expected to remain high in 2023/24, the Group will expand its other sources of revenue, namely fee income, to help mitigate the impact on net interest income from a declining interest spread. For the card acquiring business, the Group will upgrade its acquiring system platform and work with other payment solution providers to extend the merchant network and to add in new services. Regarding the insurance agency business, the Group will expand its direct sales team and explore new insurance products to meet the needs of its customers.

In terms of technology development, with the completion of the card and loan system replacement project, the Group can promote new product benefits by enhancing digital marketing and providing premium user experiences or new payment solutions to its customers. Moreover, the effectiveness of the Group's marketing, credit assessment and credit management activities are expected to improve with the support of data analytics tools.

Mr. Tomoharu Fukayama, Managing Director of AEON Credit, said, "The Group is pleased to have achieved robust growth over the past year through the implementation of timely initiatives that have capitalised on the improving market sentiment. While it is difficult to predict the time frame for a full economic recovery, with the Group's responsiveness and strong business relations with its partners, as well as its solid liquidity position and balance sheet, we remain confident in our future growth prospects and look forward to performing satisfactorily in the coming year."

BOSTON, Apr 3, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – The RepTrak Company(TM), the world's leading reputation data and insights company, announces the results of its 2023 Global RepTrak(R) 100. The report is the world's most comprehensive study of corporate reputation, compiled for the past 13 years using RepTrak's in-depth analysis and ranking of the top 100 companies worldwide by Reputation Score.

Utilizing its advanced reputation monitoring software, RepTrak gathered data from more than 230,000 ratings globally to understand the public's perceptions of the most important elements of corporate reputation: ESG (Environmental/Social/Governance), workplace fairness, leadership, innovation, branding, and more.

Available today is the complete 2023 Global RepTrak 100(R) ranking and report, with comprehensive analysis of global, industry, and demographic trends, at https://www.reptrak.com/rankings/

This data shows how people think, feel and act towards particular companies and ranks those companies based on the RepTrak Reputation Score.

The continued downfall of corporate reputation

In 2022, the global RepTrak Reputation Score went down for the first time since 2018. In 2023, this decrease continued on a global scale, with global Reputation Scores settling at an average of 73.2, down from 74.2 in 2022.

"Even with corporate reputation down in 2023," says RepTrak CEO Mark Sonders, "Top 100 companies are exceptional in their efforts, rising up to intense and complex stakeholder expectations on ethical, supply chain, and workplace issues globally. There's always room for improvement, but Top 100 companies are leading the way."

ESG remains important but expectations are unmet

The global ESG score was also down this year. Each individual driver saw a significant decrease, with Environmental experiencing the biggest decline. RepTrak data has shown that perceptions of a company's leadership in ESG have a direct impact on purchase intent – the public's willingness to buy from a company goes from 20% with a weak ESG score to 60% with a high score.

"This year's ESG results serve as a reminder: it's not just about what you do, it's about how you do it," says Sonders. "ESG is only increasing in importance, affecting how we buy, trust, and recommend the brands we interact with."

Financial concerns are top of mind

As part of its reputation measurement and monitoring platform, RepTrak also measures the actions stakeholders are willing to take when considering, supporting, and engaging with a company, referred to as Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes Willingness to Buy, Willingness to Invest, and Willingness to Work For all experienced significant decreases in 2023 demonstrating a clear frustration with the current economic state. Inflation is being felt on a global scale.

"The combination of a global decrease in reputation paired with an unpredictable financial landscape has stakeholders nervous to interact with brands," warns Mark Sonders. "How organizations manage their approach to a potential recession will impact stakeholders beyond 2023."

2022's Reputation Leaders

The top 10 companies by Reputation Score, as ranked in the 2023 Global RepTrak(R) 100, are:

The LEGO Group
The Bosch Group
Rolls-Royce Aerospace
Harley-Davidson, Inc.
Canon
Rolex SA
Miele
Sony
Nintendo
Mercedes-Benz

The LEGO Group is the World's Most Reputable Company in 2023, but this is not their first #1 ranking. They achieved RepTrak's #1 spot in 2020 and 2021, dropped to #3 in 2022, and now they've returned. Although their Reputation Scores have decreased, a well-rounded approach to supporting the world of play, combined with a dedicated focus to ethical practices makes them a global reputation favorite.

"I am very honored that the LEGO Group has been named the World's Most Reputable Company in 2023," says Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of the LEGO Group. "This reflects the unwavering passion and commitment of our colleagues to help keep our promises during a year shaped by significant challenges. Children are our role models and inspire us to make choices that make their future world better. This means not only innovating LEGO play but also constantly striving to have a positive impact on environment and society."

The IKEA Group experienced a notable increase rank in 2023, landing at #24 on this year's list, up from #52 in 2022. With a 0.9-point increase in Reputation Score and a 1.0-point increase in their Products & Services Score, an indicator of their price-friendly utility in the face of inflation. Inflation remains a top concern internationally, with global average Products & Services Scores down from 1.0-point from 2022, with particular concern on quality for value.

Workplace concerns persists

As a Reputation Driver, Workplace decreased to the lowest Score amongst Drivers in 2023. Widespread layoffs have individual RepTrak Reputation factors including "equal opportunities in the workplace," "rewards employees fairly," and "concerned for employee well-being," decreasing significantly.

When respondents were asked What actions do you want companies to prioritize during a recession? Their top priority was "[Avoiding] staff layoffs."

But layoffs haven't lowered employment standards established during the Great Resignation. As part of our Business Outcomes, RepTrak measures Willingness to Work For. In 2023, Work For Scores have decreased. Even in the face of unemployment, worker scrutiny has not let up. It is important for employers to maintain fair and attractive employee benefits, especially as inflation erodes workers' purchasing power.

"As the Great Resignation concluded and massive layoffs began, both workers and customers want their favorite brands to be good employers," explains Sonders. "RepTrak data demonstrates a lot is wrong in the world of work, but avoiding layoffs in the face of recession is key in the eyes of stakeholders."

Additional notable findings:

– Reputation was down across industries and across organizations. Results at the individual company level show the same: company scores in the Global RepTrak Top 10 and Top 100 have lower scores than in 2022.
– Brand Scores have also decreased, suggesting that branding efforts are losing their way.
– Notable increases in rank include Booking.com (+43), Hewlett Packard (+42), Novartis (+32), Honda Motor Company (+31), and Aldi GmbH & Co. KG (+31)
– Baby Boomers are the most optimistic generation studied, while Millennials experienced the largest YoY Reputation Score decrease, and Gen Z seems to have settled further into their corporate pessimism

Report and Methodology

RepTrak helps companies understand how stakeholders feel, think, and act towards them, measuring Reputation using a 0-100 scale and tracking how a company is perceived across several Reputation drivers: Products & Services, Innovation, Citizenship, Performance, Governance, Leadership and Workplace. RepTrak's proprietary measurement system has been developed to allow worldwide application on a normative scale, which enables direct comparison regardless of sector, size, or geography.

For consideration in the 2022 Global RepTrak(R) 100, a company had to meet the following criteria:

– Be a corporate brand with global revenue above USD $2 billion
– Achieve a global average familiarity threshold above 20 percent in all fourteen countries measured and a familiarity threshold above 20 percent in seven or more of the fourteen countries measured
– Reach a qualifying Reputation Score above the median score (i.e., 67.3 points)

To determine the ranking, The RepTrak Company analyzed Reputation data for several thousand companies which was collected between December 2022 and January 2023 using world-class survey methodology and was enriched by RepTrak's historical database. Companies that met these criteria were then ranked based on their global Reputation Scores. A company's corporate Reputation is determined using RepTrak's proprietary and patent-pending Reputation Score – a score from 0-100 that measures how people feel towards a particular company. Reputation Scores demonstrate a strong positive relationship with business outcomes, such as an audience's willingness to buy, recommend, or trust a company. The top 100 companies with the highest Reputation Scores made the final ranking.

The Global RepTrak(R) 100 ranking is based on more than 230,000 ratings collected across the 14 largest economies globally using online surveys. For access to the report, visit https://www.reptrak.com/rankings/
