BYD Wins the Largest Pure-Electric Bus Order outside of China

Bogota, Colombia, Jan 12, 2021 – (ACN Newswire) – BYD is proud to announce that it has exclusively won cumulative orders to supply 1,002-unit pure-electric buses to the capital of Colombia, Bogota. This tender was open to all bus technologies, yet BYD won the trust and cooperation of its partners in the fiercely competitive bidding process thanks to its cutting-edge technologies, products and services. This is the largest order for pure-electric buses outside of China to date, which sets a new record in sales volume for the overseas pure-electric bus industry.

Like the 470 bus models delivered by BYD to Bogota in December 2020, this batch of 1002 buses also includes 9-meter and 12-meter models

Bogota City Public Transport Authority (TRANSMILENIO S.A.) launched a public commercial tender covering diesel, CNG and electric technologies for 1,295 buses in August. Three of BYD's global strategic partners finally adopted BYD's integrated electric bus solutions for their bids and successfully won the tender, totally 1,002 pure electric buses. BYD will partner with local bus manufacturers Superpolo and BUSSCAR respectively on the bus body parts.

This batch of buses is scheduled to be delivered during 2021 and into the first half of 2022, and will be put into operation on 34 bus routes across five regions of the capital, providing residents along the routes with quiet, safe and emissions-free travel services.

With highly-recognized technology, products and services, this 'thousand-unit' order opens up a new era

In this competition covering all bus technologies, BYD, relying on its strong capability with core strengths, has won exclusive orders for 1,002 pure electric buses, fully demonstrating the market's high recognition and trust in BYD's technology, products and services. So far, BYD has won 1,472 orders for pure electric buses in the Colombian capital. According to TRANSMILENIO S.A., these buses will reduce 83,433 tons of carbon dioxide and 9.63 tons of particle emissions per year compared to diesel buses meeting fifth-generation European emission standards over the 15-year concession period, which will greatly improve local air quality and enhance Colombia's overall ability to cope with climate change.

In addition to Bogota, Colombia's capital city, BYD buses operate in Medellin, Cali and elsewhere. At present, BYD has accumulated 1,550 orders for pure electric buses in Colombia, continuously leading the push for bus electrification in Colombia and Latin America.

"This more than 1,000 buses order marks a fresh start, which will effectively promote the rapid development of green transportation in Latin America and the coming era of global bus electrification," said Stella Li, President BYD Motors. "In the move towards electrification globally, BYD will continue to make great contributions moving forward."

"Assembling the bus body parts in Colombia will not only help boost the national economy by creating skilled jobs for the local community, but also improve the quality of transportation services, cut carbon emissions, and improve the environment," said Maria Fernanda Ortiz, head of the TRANSMILENIO S.A.

"As the world's leading new energy vehicle manufacturer, BYD has overcome many difficulties resulting from the pandemic, exclusively winning this tender because of our all-round capability", said Lara Zhang, the Regional Director of BYD Latin America. "We are extremely grateful for the trust and recognition of all our strategic clients, and we are also looking forward to working with Superpolo and BUSSCAR on this exciting project."

A key player in the wave of transport electrification sweeping across Latin America

Since BYD entered the Colombian market in 2012 it has made several breakthroughs, including establishing Latin America's first pure electric taxi fleet in Bogota in 2013, and up to date winning this 1,002-unit pure-electric bus order. BYD has a market share of over 96.5% in the Colombian electric bus market, and more impressively 99% in Bogota, the capital.

At present, the increasingly strict emission standards of various countries around the globe have undoubtedly promoted policies for greener, cleaner transport. According to a report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) in 2019, Colombia aims to have a "domestic new energy vehicle population of 600,000 vehicles by 2030." As the world's first new energy company to propose the "Electrified Public Transportation" strategy, BYD has become a key player in the wave of transportation electrification sweeping across Latin America. In Chile, as in Colombia, BYD has become the supplier leader for local green transportation: by the end of 2020, the brand had delivered 455 pure electric buses to Santiago, the capital of Chile, with a market share of about 56%.

Today, BYD's new energy product footprint has spread across major Latin American markets including Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Barbados, Panama, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Argentina, and is winning market acclaim for its remarkable environmental benefits and reliable quality.

BYD Delivers Largest Pure Electric Bus Fleet in Colombia

Bogota, Colombia, Dec 21, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – On December 17, BYD announced the delivery of 470 pure electric buses to Bogota, the capital of Colombia. This is the country's largest pure electric bus fleet, and also the largest bus fleet BYD has delivered in the Americas, which will effectively promote the already fast-growing electrified public transport systems in Colombia, Latin America and the entire Americas.

120 BYD electric buses delivered to Bogota

Each bus takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours to fully charge, with a cruising range that exceeds 300 kilometers on a single charge

Claudia Nayibe Lopez Hernandez, Mayor of Bogota (fourth from left, first row) and Lara Zhang, Regional Director of BYD Latin America (third from right, first row) were among those in attendance at the delivery and operation ceremony

The Bogota City Government and the Bogota City Public Transport Authority (TRANSMILENIO S.A) held a grand launch and delivery ceremony for the first batch of 120 buses. This batch of buses will be delivered to 9 bus routes across the city by TRANSMILENIO S.A on December 26, 2020, and will serve approximately 69,300 passengers along the routes. The remaining 350 units will be put on the other 30 routes during the first quarter of 2021, by which time a total of 302,000 passengers can enjoy the zero-emission bus service.

Also supporting the bus fleet is a charging station located in the Fontibon district of Bogota, which is equipped with 56 double-gun electric chargers with a power of 150KW. The construction of the charging station, the installation of the chargers and the power supply are handled by Codensa, a joint venture established by ENEL, an Italian power grid company and the Bogota Energy Group. When the buses and charging stations are officially put into operation, it is estimated that more than 400 job opportunities will be created for the local communities, including drivers, logistics and maintenance personnel.

The 120 buses include 12-meter and 9-meter models, with a passenger capacity of 80 and 50 people respectively. They take 1.5 to 2.5 hours to fully charge, with a cruising range that exceeds 300 kilometers on a single charge, which can easily meet the buses' daily operating mileage of 260 kilometers. Compared with diesel buses, BYD's pure electric bus fleet will save 12,500 tons of carbon dioxide and 2.5 tons of dust particles from being emitted every year.

In addition, each bus comes equipped with a driver safety cabin, TV, WIFI, security cameras, intelligent transport system, mobile phone charging USB interfaces, access platform for people with disabilities, and other people-centric features.

"Today is a historic day that we can record in the history of Bogota," said Claudia Nayibe Lopez Hernandez, the Mayor of Bogota: "This is thanks to the joint efforts of many talented Colombians. We want to buy more electric buses, preferably, that allow us to remove the old diesel and gasoline fleet, and renew it with clean, electric buses, providing more and better services for citizens."

Felipe Ramirez Buitrago, General Manager of TRANSMILENIO S.A, briefly introduced the plans for charging stations and the significance of the fleet. "The Fontibon charging station put into operation today is the first pure electric bus charging station in Bogota. Three other charging stations will be put into operation in other districts of the city. By then, Bogota will operate a total of 483 pure electric buses, of which 470 will come from BYD. This is the largest pure electric bus fleet in the country, highlighting and consolidating Colombia's status as a model for environmental protection in Latin America."

"Bogota is undergoing a historic moment," said Lucio Rubio Diaz, General Director of the Enel Colombia: "We are always committed to the transition to clean energy, and this project plays an important role. By building green and environmentally friendly charging stations, we have made a positive contribution to the sustainable development of Bogota, improving air quality for citizens, improving the quality of life, and providing more comfortable zero-emission travel services."

"It feels really great that our dream come true," said Ricardo Sierra, President of Colombia's bus procurement company Celsia. "TRANSMILENIO S.A and Bogota City are leaders in electric buses, and they are setting an example for many cities seeking to develop zero-emission bus systems. I congratulate the citizens of Bogota, who will soon experience the unique charm of eco-friendly buses." This batch of 120 buses was purchased by Celsia and then delivered to the local bus operator Gran Americas Fontibon I SAS, with a concession duration of 15 years.

"During the pandemic, BYD has overcome all difficulties, completed production with quality and quantity and delivered on time," said Lara Zhang, the Regional Director of BYD Latin America. "BYD's dedication to zero-emission technology innovation fits perfectly with the commitment of the city of Bogota and TRANSMILENIO S.A to sustainable development." The buses were produced by BYD's bus plants in Nanjing and Hangzhou and then shipped to Buenaventura Port in Bogota.

"Today, Bogota is at the forefront of zero-emission public transportation," said Juan Luis Mesa, General Manager of BYD Colombia. "To demonstrate the all-round strength of the vehicle's range and driving performance, we took a bold approach: from the day the buses arrived at the port, we drove all the way to Bogota, covering about 500 kilometers along the way, passing through 4 cities, and people along the way were very surprised. We feel confident that the bus fleet has successfully attracted the attention of the public before it even begins operations, and they are eager to experience this new technology."

BYD entered the Colombian market in 2012 and made several milestone achievements: building the first pure electric taxi fleet in South America in 2013, entering the Bogota BRT system in 2017. It's also delivered 64 electric buses to Medellin in 2018, and delivered 470 units for the largest pure electric bus fleet in Colombia in 2020.

Throughout Latin America, BYD's new energy vehicle footprint has spread to major markets including Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Argentina. The brand has gained market praise for its remarkable environmental benefits and reliable quality, and continues to promote the electrified public transportation across the Americas. Globally, BYD's green transport offerings have spread to over 300 cities, operating in more than 50 countries and regions.

Carsome Announces Series D Fundraising

SEOUL & KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – Carsome, Southeast Asia's largest integrated car e-commerce platform, recently completed its Series D fundraising. The US$30 million round, one of the largest all-equity financings to-date in Southeast Asia's online automotive industry, was led by Asia Partners and was joined by existing Carsome investors Burda Principal Investments and Ondine Capital.

According to Eric Cheng, Co-founder and Group CEO of Carsome, this fundraising round, the largest equity investment in Carsome's history, is a strong endorsement of its integrated business model, with end-to-end digital enablement across used car sellers, dealers, and buyers. "We will use this capital to strengthen our existing regional leadership in consumer-to-business (C2B) used car e-commerce and accelerate our already successful new offering in the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment. We look forward to rolling out Southeast Asia's first-ever C2B and B2C integrated e-commerce platform for used cars, a significantly superior new retail experience," said Cheng.

"Over the past six months, we have doubled our monthly revenue compared to pre-pandemic levels, a dramatic acceleration due to the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic on consumer behavior across our region," Cheng added. "Consumers across our core markets of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore are increasingly purchasing cars to keep their families safe and adapt their businesses."

Commenting on the fundraising, lead investor Oliver M. Rippel of Asia Partners observed that Carsome's combination of strong executive leadership and a robust business model position the company well for future growth. "Carsome's integrated approach offering a one-stop solution to used car buyers and sellers is genuinely impressive. We see that this will be the way forward for the used car industry, and we look forward to working closely with Eric and his very capable team in further scaling the business across the region."

Founded in 2015, Carsome has grown to employ more than 1,000 people and today transacts an annualized 70,000 cars totalling US$600 million in transacted value on its online platform. Building on its original foundation in Malaysia, one of Southeast Asia's largest car markets, Carsome then launched its operations in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, deepening its regional footprint.

Since founding, Carsome has delivered an impressive record of accomplishments, growing from strength to strength. Carsome recorded its highest revenue quarter in Q3 2020 in its history, doubling its revenue from the pre-pandemic period. In November 2020, Carsome celebrated its 100,000th car sold through its platform – an important milestone achieved within five years of founding.

Notably, Carsome has also achieved operational profitability as of October, ahead of earlier projections. "We have built a defensible, scalable, and profitable business with very healthy unit economics attributed to both growth in gross margin and steady improvements in productivity and conversion metrics," said Juliet Zhu, Carsome Group Chief Financial Officer. "Our Series D round will further support potential merger and acquisition opportunities in acquiring ancillary capabilities and consolidating our supply chain."

Crucial to Carsome's success has been its commitment to rigorous car inspections, offering Carsome-inspected and certified cars directly to customers in a seamless fashion, building a reservoir of consumer trust and brand equity in an essential but historically complex industry. Every car that transacts on the Carsome platform goes through a comprehensive 175-point inspection, and every Carsome car purchase is backed up with an extended warranty and a money-back guarantee.

Carsome's successful track record of digitizing a traditionally offline and fragmented industry, as well as its resilience in the face of the global pandemic, were key factors in several existing investors' decisions to reinvest in the Series D round. "We appreciate the way Carsome has continued to support car sellers and dealers through the pandemic," said Albert Shyy, the Singapore-based Managing Director of Asia for Burda Principal Investments, who first invested in the Series B round. "We witnessed Carsome's growth and resilience during the pandemic and are proud to continue our support," added Randolph Hsu, the Taipei-based Founding Partner of Ondine Capital, who first invested in the Series C round.

While the platform flourishes from digitalization tailwinds, Carsome remains focused on supporting its partners to navigate new challenges brought about by the pandemic. Carsome introduced various incentives and bonus rewards for used car dealers in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand under its Dealer Alliance Support Program. The company also introduced its Covid-19 Support Fund this year for employees affected by the pandemic.

China Dynamics Delivers its First Air-conditioned Electric Buses to the Philippines

HONG KONG, Nov 19, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – China Dynamics (Holdings) Limited (Stock Code: 476, together with its subsidiaries, collectively referred to as "China Dynamics" or the "Group"), a provider of new energy vehicles and integrated technology solutions, is pleased to announce that the Group has completed the delivery of electric buses to Davao, the third largest city in the Philippines. This successful effort not only demonstrates the Group's commitment to establishing a foothold overseas, but also highlights its competitive advantages in the new energy vehicles market.

China Dynamics has completed the delivery of electric buses to Davao, the third largest city in the Philippines

China Dynamics tailor-made the electric vehicle for downtown shuttle service in the Philippines. The electric bus, running on fast-charging lithium ion batteries, is equipped with full air-conditioning and a retractable ramp that has been specially designed to meet the needs of persons with disabilities and the elderly – the first of its kind in the Philippines public transportation network. Leveraging the Group's advanced cloud-based software, which monitors the vehicle's diagnostics to determine potential maintenance issue, the electric bus will be able to deliver efficient, reliable and comfortable transport service to the public.

Mr. Miguel Valldecabres Polop, CEO of China Dynamics, said, "We see tremendous opportunities emerging from the Philippines, given that the country aims to have 21% of its vehicle population become electric by 2030 . This means that thousands of small buses (i.e. jeepneys) currently in operation will need to be replaced. Besides, we are truly grateful to have Global Electric Transportation ("GET"), the first electric bus operator in the Philippines, become our business partner and proponent, supporting our commitment and dedication to environmental and social progress. Such cooperation will undoubtedly lead to significant milestones for China Dynamics going forward."

As the most popular mode of transportation in the Philippines, around 270,000 franchised jeepneys are estimated in operation in the country. Many of these vehicles use second-hand and poorly maintained engines that significantly contribute to urban air pollution. Under the Comprehensive Roadmap on electric vehicles devisd by the government, about 60,000 jeepneys are expected to be modernized.

GET is one of the main players that aim to deliver zero-emission vehicles to replace the old jeepneys. Its goal is to bring pollution-free transportation to the Philippines and improve the living conditions for the local population.

Mr. Cheung Ngan, Chairman of China Dynamics, believes the electric bus order is a testament to the Group's strong fundamentals. He said, "The launch of the electric bus in the Philippines further highlights China Dynamics' core technological advantages in the burgeoning new energy vehicle market. Together with the successful launch of our first electric accessible minibus in Hong Kong earlier this month, we are confident in securing more orders from both the overseas and local market. As we do so, China Dynamics will be able to generate favorable returns and move closer towards realizing its sustainable business strategy."

BYD Debuts DM-i Hybrid Technology and 1.5L Xiaoyun Engine

SHENZHEN, CHINA, Nov 15, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – On November 13, BYD launched the DM-i hybrid technology alongside the official announcement of the high efficiency version, which is dedicated for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), of the 1.5L Xiaoyun engine. As a leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs), the announcements underline BYD's lead in strategically segmenting its plug-in hybrid technologies. After defining new performance standards for PHEVs with the DM-p technology, BYD continues to break new ground with the DM-i, this time prioritizing ultra-efficient fuel consumption.

Eric Li, Deputy General Manager of BYD Auto Sales (Middle) presenting tech details of Xiaoyun Engine.

The new highly efficient 1.5L plug-in hybrid engine, is specifically built for the DM-i hybrid technology. With a Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) of 43%, it stands as the world's highest thermally efficient gasoline engine in production. The engine's immense fuel efficiency easily meets China's newest national emissions standards, while also providing a distinctly smooth and quiet driving experience.

The DM-i Hybrid Technology – Bold new advances for a more fuel-efficient world

In the Chinese government's recent New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035), NEVs are expected to account for 20% of the total sales of new vehicles in China by 2025. Among these, the path for PHEVs shows immense potential.

By leveraging its Dual Platform strategy, BYD's dual-mode (DM) hybrid technologies – the DM-p and the DM-i – further enhances the competitiveness of PHEVs against traditional fuel vehicles.

The DM-p platform, with a focus on exceptional performance, provides a power output that surpasses large fuel cars. This has drawn the interest of consumer groups that strongly care about environmental protection and sustainable lifestyles, while also holding high expectations for driving experiences.

New models with the DM-i hybrid technology will see a wide array of improvements, including further reductions in fuel consumption, faster acceleration, smoother and quieter rides, and more environmentally-friendly electric power. When compared to traditional fuel cars, vehicles equipped with DM-i hybrid technology stand out as superior products with their enhancement of driving experiences while being less reliant on fossil fuels. In addition, the prices of models with the DM-i hybrid technology are similar to the cost (tax and fee included) of fuel vehicles of the same type from outside of China. This is positioned to be a significant shift in the competition between PHEVs and fuel vehicles, impacting consumer and market perceptions of NEVs.

Eric Li, Deputy General Manager of BYD Auto Sales, said, "BYD has always insisted on self-reliance to build its core technology. With our advantages in new energy technologies, we have achieved major breakthroughs in several key areas. The DM-i hybrid will rigorously accelerate the replacement of traditional fuel cars with new energy vehicles."

The Xiaoyun engine – Hardcore technology for premium thermal efficiency

Powering the ultra-high thermal efficiency of the Xiaoyun is a multitude of innovative technical features, allowing it to reach its world-leading 43% BTE.

The Xiaoyun boasts an ultra-high compression ratio (CR) of 15.5, an increased B/S ratio, an Atkinson cycle for improved combustion efficiency, an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, a series of friction-reducing measures and an engine control system that is uniquely optimized for high thermal efficiency targets.

In addition, the Xiaoyun engine takes full advantage of the electrification of plug-in hybrid models, electrifying accessories and removing the traditional front-engine accessory drive system, further reducing wear and tear and improving efficiency.

For the first time ever, BYD has implemented split cooling technology for an engine. Through on-demand cylinder head and cylinder block temperature measurements, this enables precise and accurate cooling for the Xiaoyun engine to reach optimal running temperatures. By mitigating heating losses, this shortens the length of warming up the engine after a cold start by 15-20%, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions during the process.

To dramatically improve noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance, the engine has specially-optimized designs for the crankshaft, bearings, cylinder block, intake manifold, oil pan, timing cover, cylinder head cover and other components of the plug-in hybrid system.

The 7m Pure Electric AI Accessible Minibus is powered by high-performance lithium iron phosphate batteries, emits no pollutant when in operation, and only requires 30 to 60 minutes of charging time to achieve a range of 200 kilometers. In addition, the minibus is fitted with features that are a first for such vehicles, including automatic emergency braking system, lane departure warning system and fatigue driving alarm, helping to substantially enhance safety and stability.

Mr. Miguel Valldecabres Polop, CEO of China Dynamics, believes the electric minibus not only sets new benchmarks in environmental protection and safety for Hong Kong minibuses, but also assists in promoting an inclusive society, and said, "The cramped surroundings and long stairs found in Hong Kong's public transport system represent obstacles for people with impaired mobility, curbing their desire to go out. We understand their difficulties, which is why we have designed this spacious minibus for use on Hong Kong roads. In addition to twelve passenger seats, the vehicle has enough space for four wheelchairs, and it is also equipped with an extra-low platform that provides convenient access for people with disabilities and for seniors, thereby easing their worries about going out."

Mr. Cheung Ngan, Chairman of China Dynamics, said, "Our 7m Pure Electric AI Accessible Minibus boasts such attributes as smooth operation, high safety and zero emission, which will help improve air quality as well as showcases the Group's new energy vehicle technologies. That, plus the various accessibility features, will make the minibus well-received by local medical and social welfare organizations. With excellent technological advantages and product quality, we are confident that electric vehicle sales will grow in Hong Kong, which in turn will lead to the prompt securing of orders from overseas markets including Southeast Asia, South America and Europe. Such developments will enable us to further expand our business scale, raise production capacity and improve operational efficiency, leading to satisfactory returns."

Buick Electra Electric Crossover Concept Enjoys Global Premier

SHANGHAI, Oct 21, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – The Buick Electra concept vehicle enjoyed a global premiere in Shanghai. The all-electric crossover offers a sneak peek at Buick's vision for a new intelligent electric future.

"Today, Buick's innovative thinking and imagination of future intelligent mobility have reached the next level with the Electra," said Sam Basile, executive vice president of SAIC-GM. "I am confident that the aesthetics and technology innovations reflected on the Electra will ultimately help reset consumers' expectations, just as all previous Buick concepts have done."

Adopting the new "potential energy" design language, the Electra emphasizes clean and bold styling with seamless integrated technology. It comes with a new-generation electric propulsion system and the advanced Ultium battery, along with a variety of connected and intelligent driving technologies, demonstrating Buick's ongoing evolution toward the future of personal mobility.

"Building on Buick's proven leadership in electrification, the Electra represents the brand's ambition to bring together beautiful styling and intelligent connectivity in the new era of zero emissions," said Molly Peck, executive director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM.

"The advanced Ultium battery unlocks the exciting new possibilities for what future EVs will look like. The Electra fully leverages state-of-the-art technology to set a new standard for future EV design and personal mobility."

The Electra is the latest global concept vehicle developed by GM's Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) automotive engineering and design joint venture in Shanghai, backed by GM's global resources. It is named after an iconic Buick flagship model that originally represented one of the three shields in the brand's logo.

Forward-looking design inspired by a space capsule

Combining the athletic look of a four-seat crossover with Gran Turismo aesthetics, the Electra previews Buick's next-generation design language for electric vehicles.

Adopting a pure design philosophy, the Electra has clean and minimalist styling inspired by a space capsule. The evolving sculptural beauty is distinguished by a spacious glass interior pod situated in an aerodynamic wing-form bodyshell. The glass canopy extends from near the front of the hood to the rear.

The Electra's innovative "potential energy" design language is characterized by sculptural surfaces in front, along the sides, and in its wheels and lamps. It reinforces the elegant overall shape while emphasizing the dynamic stance like an arrow being released. This "moving tension" is also reflected through its gradient light silver exterior tone in the front end that progressively transitions to dark silver in back.

The illuminated Buick badge integrates a flow-through design. Along with 23-inch wheels featuring an optimal design, it helps enhance aerodynamics while contributing to the Electra's futuristic look.

Its "breathing" front and rear Matrix LED lamps feature parametrical mathematic lighting strings with a three-dimensional effect. They are complemented by a full LED-illuminated grille and rear screen nameplate to provide dramatic digital lighting interaction.

The Electra's butterfly wing doors support facial recognition and provide a robust opening for convenient access. There is also a hidden floating skateboard integrated with the stoplight under the rear bumper to expand users' personal mobility options.

Zero-gravity environment with seamless technology integration

The Electra's four-seat interior takes full advantage of the all-new electric vehicle architecture developed by GM, with an optimized battery layout. Together with the lack of traditional A/B pillars, the result is a maximum extension of the cabin with a longer wheelbase, a more efficient package and a more spacious, open interior.

The Electra interior has a sculptural spaceship-like cradle, without a traditional instrument panel. The large curved display is a central feature. A retractable steering wheel and suspended seats, supported by an all-new light-weighted armature structure, creates a visual effect of zero gravity inside the cabin.

The Electra's color palette, including copper gold trim surrounding the cabin and dark trim on the exterior frame, replicates the atmosphere of outer space. The interior seamlessly integrates technologies such as a concealed air-conditioning system, ambient lighting and an electronic rearview mirror. The Electra provides functionality and convenience with features available when the user needs them.

Intuitive and immersive user experience

The Electra offers an intuitive and immersive user experience that rewards all the senses. Buick's next-generation eConnect connectivity system runs on the distinctively large retina display with industry-leading freeform curved screen technology, expanding the viewing area for the driver with an immersive visual experience.

The advanced eConnect system supports remote over-the-air (OTA) updates and enables a connected experience by providing on-demand driving information, advanced driver assistant system details and infotainment control. The introduction of a large augmented reality-enhanced head-up display with advanced live-view navigation adds to the Electra's intuitive multi-screen interactive user interface.

The Electra is also equipped with the next generation of Buick's intelligent AI Voice Assistant. Users can fully manage the vehicle's functions with smooth and precise human-machine voice interaction, such as controlling the air-conditioning, accessing home devices and adjusting the driving mode.

Advanced electrification technology and smart mobility

Leveraging GM's global EV expertise, the Electra is supported by its new-generation high-performance modular electric propulsion system. Utilizing the advanced Ultium battery, the Electra has a range of more than 660 kilometers on a single charge, making it ideal for daily commutes as well as family trips.

Thanks to the industry-leading wireless battery management system, the Ultium battery reduces wires within the battery by 90%. It also helps balance chemistry within the individual battery cell groups and conduct real-time battery pack checks to safeguard battery health.

The Electra's Ultium drive unit has high-performance motors in both the front and the rear to ensure optimized power output. It has maximum power of 435 kW, enabling 0-100 kilometer per hour acceleration of just 4.3 seconds.

Additional vehicle highlights for future mobility include GM's next-generation intelligent driving technology with door to-door smart mobility solutions, as well as V2X technologies, to offer a safe and intelligent ride with peace of mind.

Buick has found success offering premium SUVs and cars with sculptural designs, refined performance, modern interiors and thoughtful personal technologies. Buick's award-winning customer service and sales experience, along with the Avenir trim, the highest expression of Buick luxury, are attracting new buyers to experience Buick's unique approach to attainable luxury in North America and China. Buick has sold over 10 million vehicles in China since its introduction by SAIC-GM in 1998. More information about Buick vehicles in China, its largest market, is available at www.Buick.com.cn.

Mitsubishi Licenses Hybrid Technology Patents from Paice, Abell Foundation

BALTIMORE, MD / ACCESSWIRE, Aug 25, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – Paice, a pioneer in hybrid electric vehicle technology, announced today that it has reached an agreement to license its patented hybrid technology to MITSUBISHI MOTORS CORPORATION, a global leader in plug-in hybrid vehicles. The Mitsubishi Outlander is the world's best-selling plug-in hybrid.

"Mitsubishi is one of the most successful hybrid vehicle companies in Europe, and we are pleased to be adding them to the long list of leading automakers who have recognized the value of Paice's hybrid technology," said Paice Executive Chairman Frances Keenan. "We continue to reach meaningful agreements with responsible car companies without the need for litigation, expanding the reach of our technology and supporting the good works of the Abell Foundation."

Paice was an early leader in electrified vehicles. The company was awarded its first hybrid vehicle patent in 1994, long before most automakers began seriously focusing on ways to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Paice's technology proved valuable and helped accelerate the growth of the hybrid vehicle industry. An independent analysis concluded that Paice owns the most dominant hybrid vehicle patents in the world.

During the company's early years, Dr. Alex Severinsky, inventor and founder of Paice, worked closely with two experienced automotive veterans: Bob Templin, a Paice board member who had served as chief engineer of Cadillac and technical director of GM's Research Laboratory; and Ted Louckes, a 40-year veteran of General Motors who served as Paice's Chief Operating Officer and was instrumental in developing Paice's hybrid technology alongside Dr. Severinsky.

About Paice (www.paicehybrid.com)

Dr. Alex Severinsky, a Russian immigrant, founded Paice in 1992 with the support of the University of Maryland. The company has been awarded 30 U.S. and foreign patents. It has licensing agreements with many of the world's leading automakers.

About the Abell Foundation (www.abell.org)

The Abell Foundation, a Baltimore-based charitable organization dedicated to fighting urban poverty and promoting social objectives by investing in progressive local start-ups, is a co-owner of the Paice patents. Since 1999, Abell has helped support Paice's efforts to develop and promote its hybrid technology.
