In his speech, Dr. Liu Yung-chau, Honorary Chairman of COEAHK, said, “I wish to thank our friends in and outside the industry for it is with their support and encouragement that COEAHK is officially founded. Also, on behalf of the Association, I would like to express my gratitude to all of you the cream of the crop in the community, and education and professional sectors for joining us tonight. COEAHK will serve as a bridge that connects the government, and the business and occupational education sectors, heeding the perspective of students on the supply side, which is “to put to use what they have learned”, and that of enterprises on the demand side, which is “to hire the most capable for a job”. At present, the society has a strong demand for talent strong in practical skills, and there is a gap to be filled, yet occupational education colleges, employers and the Education Bureau have been working independently. The purpose of the Association is precisely to promote communication and cooperation between the education, business and political sectors between Hong Kong and mainland China, facilitating sharing of resources among occupational colleges, school-enterprise cooperation, industry-education integration and integrated development of the political and education sectors.

Currently, both Hong Kong and mainland China are facing labour shortage problem, especially in need of talent with specialized skills. Transformation and upgrade of young talent to meet social development needs is an important aspect in talent education. Prof. Wong Yuk-Shan, Chairman of COEAHK, said, “Based in Hong Kong, the Association has its eyes set on the GBA and the wider mainland China market. Our hope is to leverage Hong Kong’s unique advantages and marrying them with national development strategies, focusing not only on Hong Kong’s occupational education, but also paying attention to the talent gap in the mainland, so as to aid the prosperous development of occupational education in both places, nurture professionals for the business sector, and contribute to socio-economic development. Moreover, we look forward to via more in-depth industry-education integration projects helping students master professional skills that meet the needs of society and pave their career development paths.”

John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, pointed out in his 2023 Policy Address that “Hong Kong will prosper only when its young people thrive” and thus it needs to “enhance the status of occupational and professional education and training and develop universities of applied sciences” to turn into a city with international and highly diversified post-secondary education and become “an international hub for post-secondary education”. Amid industrial upgrade and transformation, and rapidly developing technologies and as guided by the national strategy of “promoting the country through science and education”, young talent equipped with advanced professional skills are the solid force in “high quality development of occupational education”.

The setting up of COEAHK does not only match the development plan and economic transformation and upgrade of Hong Kong and the mainland, but agrees also to the urgent need for cooperation and inclusiveness among the different parties in society. Timely and trend commands, the Association can act as a bridge for the government, and the business and occupational education sectors in Hong Kong and mainland China to communicate and boost value, and does the same for the occupational education sectors of the two places. In the future, it will stive to pool all relevant forces and be devoted to developing occupational education and training talent, to the end of serving the country’s needs and promoting prosperity of the GBA. It will be a bridge that connects different parties in society, encouraging exchanges and cooperation and making positive contribution to the prosperity and development of occupational education.

PIS with BGN Adds Two Giant Gas Tankers, Supporting Energy Resilience and Global Market Expansion for Indonesia

MOKPO, South Korea, Jan 12, 2024 – (ACN Newswire) – Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has strengthened its fleet by adding two Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC), giant gas tankers optimized for transporting LPG both domestically and internationally. Named the VLGC Pertamina Gas Tulip and the VLGC Pertamina Gas Bergenia, they are among the world’s largest gas tankers, environmentally friendly and using the latest technology.

The twin tankers, each spanning twice the length of a football field, were constructed at Hyundai Samho shipyard in South Korea and officially launched on Tuesday, January 9th. The ownership of these tankers is a result of the collaboration between PIS and BGN, the global energy and commodities trading company, which commenced in December 2022 and accelerated with the signing of an agreement in October 2023.

The launch of these new vessels was officiated by the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati, Group CEO of BGN Ruya Bayegan, President and CEO of Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Shin Hyeon Dae, CEO of Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Yoki Firnandi, and witnessed by Pertamina Commissioner Iggi Haruman Achsien and PIS Commissioner Lina Santi.

“The presence of these two VLGC ships will undoubtedly enhance the capability of the Pertamina Group in securing energy supplies to support national energy resilience. Their cutting-edge technology is evidence of Pertamina Group’s commitment to sustainable business,” said Pertamina’s President Director Nicke Widyawati.

The latest VLGCs, said Nicke, have also been qualified to sail internationally, thereby expanding Indonesia’s presence in the global shipping arena.

Ruya Bayegan, Group CEO of BGN, added: “We are delighted to see these two modern, efficient ships on the water, thanks to our collaborative partnership with PIS. We are pleased to help strengthen the energy security of Indonesia at the same time as supporting BGN’s global energy and commodities trading platform with these maritime assets.”

Yoki Firnandi, CEO of PIS, said that as the Sub-Holding Integrated Marine Logistics (SH IML) of Pertamina, PIS plays a crucial role in ensuring the national energy distribution of Indonesia, an archipelagic country where nearly two-thirds of its territory is ocean.

PIS plans to continue expanding its tanker fleet for transporting LPG and other gas commodities. “We plan to add 6 VLGCs in 2024, starting with these 2 VLGCs at the beginning of the year, which will further strengthen PIS’s position in the global LPG transportation business. The purchase of these environmentally friendly VLGCs is in line with our mission to be a maritime logistics company supporting Indonesia’s NDC target by 2030,” Yoki said.

The vessels’ sustainability advantages that contribute to the global energy transition include having dual-fuel tanks, enabling the optimization of low sulfur fuel and gas. The vessels can transport not only gas or LPG but also petrochemical commodities such as ammonia.

The latest technology on VLGC Pertamina Gas Tulip and Pertamina Gas Bergenia is said to improve the ship’s speed with even more efficient fuel usage, up to 16%. Moreover, these vessels have incorporated Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies into their operations.

The names Tulip and Bergenia were chosen as they hold special meanings for PIS, which may also be applied to BGN. The Tulip symbolizes magnificence, while Bergenia signifies strength.

With the addition of these vessels, PIS’s fleet now totals 97 units, including 61 tankers operating internationally. “We are optimistic that this number will continue to grow in the future, in line with the company’s targets,” concluded Yoki.

Ajna Protocol Completes Audits and Relaunches on Mainnet and L2s

West Palm Beach, FL, Jan 12, 2024 – (ACN Newswire) – The Ajna Protocol, which was initially deployed in June of 2023 and was subsequently upgraded to address a griefing vector, has completed an additional series of security audits and relaunched. While the initial deployment was limited to the Ethereum Mainnet, further deployments have now been made to Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, and Polygon, making the Ajna Protocol the only place on Mainnet and EVM sidechains/L2s where users can borrow and lend against almost anything in their wallets.

The Ajna Protocol is a suite of permissionless, immutable smart contracts that allow users to create lending markets for both ERC20 and ERC721 tokens. The contracts do not rely on governance or external price feeds (“oracles”) to function, which opens up an entire universe of previously infeasible asset pairings. For example, users can create lending markets that allow them to borrow against NFTs, real world assets, blue chip tokens, or “meme-coins.”

The mission of the Ajna Protocol is to improve on the existing DeFi borrowing and lending space by giving users a truly decentralized system with more options and less systemic risk. When using the Ajna Protocol, users are entirely in control of their own risk decisions. While it’s anticipated that front end service providers will abstract much of the complexity away from end users, the protocol’s designers believe this is a critical component of a scalable DeFi system.

“We designed the Ajna Protocol to remedy the deficiencies we saw in DeFi lending markets, namely that they were not actually decentralized and were not built to scale. Ajna lets users experience truly permissionless and nearly limitless borrowing/lending arrangements. We look forward to Ajna becoming a new building block for the DeFi ecosystem.”

– Greg Diprisco, co-founder of Ajna Labs LLC

Ajna is immutable and built without governance, which means that the protocol cannot be altered or updated once it has been launched. It’s also designed without price feeds, commonly referred to as “oracles,” in order to remove a common point of failure and to facilitate the borrowing/lending of “long-tail” assets which lack available price feeds. The Ajna Protocol should be considered experimental software; users should carefully research the protocol’s design and study its codebase before interacting with its contracts.

Many audits were conducted on the Ajna Protocol over its two years of development. Prior to the first deployment, its core pools contracts were audited by Sherlock (public contest), Prototech, Trail of Bits, Code4rena (public contest), and a subsequent Sherlock (public contest) audit. Its periphery contracts, including its innovative grant coordination fund, were audited by Sherlock (public contest), Quantstamp, Trail of Bits, Prototech, Code4rena (public contest), and a subsequent Sherlock (public contest) audit. The new deployment had its pool contracts audited once again by Sherlock (public contest), Certora, Prototech, and by Kirill Fedoseev, the independent security auditor who discovered the initial griefing vector. Some periphery contracts were audited again by Prototech. In its audit, Certora provided formal verification for several predefined rules. Cumulatively, the Ajna Protocol has undergone 10 separate security audits on the various components of its codebase.

As of the redeployment, there are two front end service providers which offer access to the Ajna Protocol: Summer.fi and Mom.
