Apollo Funds Upsize Its Capital Commitment to Global Schools Group

SINGAPORE, Jul 25, 2023 – (ACN Newswire) – Global Schools Foundation's investment arm and its related entities ("Global Schools Group", "GSG") announced that funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management, Inc. have committed to providing approximately S$190 million, nearly doubling their total capital commitment to the Global Schools Group. Apollo funds initially provided long-term funding to Global Schools Group in 2021.

This additional commitment will enable GSG to ramp up its investments over US$650 million and to complete initial transactions in the European and UK markets, whilst consolidating its existing presence in Asia and the Middle East. The Company's expectation is to further deploy US$1.5 to 2 billion over the next few years, accelerating its global expansion through merger and acquisition of leading, super-premium, and Ivy League K12 schools.

In the past three years, GSG has completed over 25 acquisitions, adding over 20,000 students across Asia and the Middle East. Brawijaya-Japan cooperate to establish Research Center of Robotic, AI

The university's deputy rector for planning, cooperation, and international affairs, Andi Kurniawan, underscored the important role of Brawijaya University to conduct such cooperation with its Japanese partners, such as the Nagoya City University (NCU).

The cooperation, which also includes the development of study program related to data science and material science, is expected to provide mutual benefits for the two universities.

"We work with universities that really consider Brawijaya as an important partner, so that collaboration for growing together can be delivered," Kurniawan remarked in a statement, Monday (June 5).

In terms of AI, he noted that the cooperation will be implemented in research on life sciences, especially those related to medical plants.

In terms of robotics, Brawijaya University and Waseda University in Japan are creating a humanoid robot that will be named King of Brawijaya.

The collaboration with Waseda University, which is ranked 200 among the best universities in the world based on the QS Star version, had been established since 2019.

In addition, several professors at Waseda University, such as Prof. Shuji Hashimoto, who is known as one of the members of the Gundam robot manufacturing team and Prof. Pitoyo Hartono, an Indonesian diaspora member, who became a professor in Japan, have forged several collaborative relations by becoming guest lecturers or supervisors at Brawijaya University.

Under the collaboration, students of Brawijaya University can learn from the research and the professors mainly from Waseda and Chukyo universities, who are main experts and involved in the projects for making Gundam robots.

Apart from research, the output of the collaboration will also be directed to publish some international journals and encourage journals in Brawijaya University to become reputable journals.

Singapore-Based Global Schools Foundation Announces Strategic Partnership With Vikaasa Schools

SNS to Collaborate on Penang’s Digital Library Programme

As part of the collaboration, SNS will sponsor 264 units of JOI Classmate 10 totaling RM342,936 to 88 select schools in Penang as part of a pilot project enabling students to have better access to their school's Digital Library anytime and anywhere through provided high-speed, uninterrupted 5G broadband. Each of these school will receive a Content Access Server that can keep thousands of e-books, a modem with 5G broadband, and three units of laptops.

88 Captains is also aiming to expand the programme to all schools in the state and SNS is prepared to fully support its efforts in developing a thriving talent ecosystem in Penang. SNS believes that broadband speed is vital in today's education system while a Digital Library is important as a platform to house all the digital content for students and encourage collaboration among teachers through the Intel-based Content Access Server.
