Industry’s First 5G Terminal Slicing Solution Demonstrated

SHANGHAI, Dec 4, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – UNISOC, with China Mobile, ZTE and other industry chain partners, jointly completed an application demonstration of the world's first 5G terminal slicing target solution, which indicates that 5G terminal has been equipped with the slicing capability and can provide personalized and customized services for 5G users. The demonstration took place at the 8th China Mobile Global Partner Conference, from November 19 to 21, on an independent 5G SA network designed and deployed by China Mobile, with ZTE 5G system equipment and the 5G terminal chipset by UNISOC.

The terminal slicing solution enables 5G terminals with enhanced service capabilities based on multiple business granularities such as APP ID, FQDN, IP triplet, and customized DNN. This means that slicing selection can not only provide differentiated service based on different services, but can also effectively isolate the same type of traffic and even provide differentiated and personalized services to different users on the same type of service, and support new service models such as cloud gaming, real-time video broadcasting, HD video playback and so on.

The solution is designed with a modem-centric system architecture, which enables the process of matching service feature attributes and network slicing in the modem, making subsequent capacity expansion flexible and efficient, sensitive to the business attributes and providing a variety of options for users. The new system is designed to be flexible and scalable for high-quality slicing services.

The demonstration uses an online speed measurement business scenario to visually compare the experiences of non-sliced network access and slice-assured network access. The comparison demonstrates excellent 5G slice-assured performance across categories in terms of the downlink peak rate, packet loss rate and latency in securing typical 5G services, fully realizing the slicing selection and modem-centric solutions for 5G terminals. The demonstration results showed that even with overloaded cell blocks built into the demonstration scenario, 5G slice users could still enjoy smooth download rates, extremely low packet loss rates and ultra-low latency service experiences.

Network slicing is the core technology of 5G, empowering various vertical industries. It is a powerful tool for generating new businesses, innovating business models, and increasing the value of the network. As a leading chip designer in China, UNISOC and its partners have jointly completed the end-to-end 5G network slicing application and modem-centric solution, which will promote the industrialization of slicing technology and will greatly facilitate the digital transformation. 5G development has brought vitality to a variety of industries and has led to the booming development of related industries and markets.

AVIA closes the year on a high note with its biggest turnout yet for the Asia Video Summit

HONG KONG, Nov 23, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – The Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA) held its annual state of the industry event, the Asia Video Summit (the Summit), which was supported by Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the Lead Sponsor, on 10 to 12 November 2020 with resounding success as over 1000 delegates from the Asian video industry gathered for the Summit. With most sessions live and broadcast from the studio to a backdrop of Hong Kong or Singapore, the Summit was produced to a very high standard and caps what has been a successful series of virtual events and webinars for AVIA.

AVIA was honoured to have Mr. Edward Yau, GBS, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region officiated at the Opening Session of the Summit by delivering a speech video-telephonically on the first day of the Summit.

The Summit opened with a macro-economic update from S&P Global Ratings' Managing Director and Chief Economist, Shaun Roache, who remained upbeat about the economy and how the potential of an early vaccine for COVID-19 could bring recovery forward, with less permanent damage. The way people consume goods and services would also change fundamentally and would be the key thing to watch over the next 1 to 2 years. However, it would take time for economic activity to resurrect, "A dimmer switch rather than a flick of the switch", commented Shaun.

This fundamental shift is also seen in consumer viewing habits, as the myriad of ways to access content and the development of technology has also revolutionized how consumers view TV and video today, shared Annette Kunst, Regional MD, Southeast Asia and New Zealand, Nielsen Media, during her session on The Fortunes of Free TV. As more broadcasters embrace change and adapt the models of streaming, the old adage of "Content is King" continues to ring true, as content is what drives people to platforms. With local content being the key connectors to audiences and driving viewership in SEA, collaboration too becomes key between content providers and producers. And in the pay TV world, this collaboration extends to streamers and partners as well. However, the tone of optimism remains across both free and pay TV, with our panel of industry leaders agreeing that both platforms still have a role to play despite an increasingly fragmented and diversified media landscape.

While content remains king, the title for queen is much contested, as our various panelists had differing views. With Parminder Singh, Chief Commercial and Digital Officer, Mediacorp, distribution is the queen, while according to Ivy Wong, CEO of VS Media "the community is the Queen". Her
experience with local creators showed the importance of not only building content but also the community around it. This sentiment was also shared by Agnes Rozario, Director of Content, Astro, on her panel on Content Cravings. Agnes reiterated the need to produce content that is relevant and close to the hearts of their viewers through data mining and analytics, to inform decision making on the content piece and to put consumers first in order to engage them.

Data is also the big focus in the world of Premium Advertising. Mitch Waters, SVP of South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, The Trade Desk, shared the need to showcase the true scale of consumption, and to have transparent access to data and information, which requires a lot of trust, collaboration and partnership from both the buy and sell sides, to get to programmatic faster.

However, questions remain about Cross Media Measurement and if it will ever happen. Added Nick Burfitt, MD, Asia, Kantar Media, "Audience measurement is now a team sport", with the issues being both technical and commercial. Anthony Dobson, VP, Media Partners Asia & MD, AMPD Research, commented on his panel, "We have found the holy grail but the goblet is broken, all the innovation and technology is available, it's missing the will and investment to make it happen."

Despite all the innovation, technology and data at hand though, Tom Keaveny, Chief Innovation & Information Officer, beIN Media Group, summed it up best at his closing panel, "It's not old media or new media… it needs to be all media. Great content… will always find its value and the ones who can curate it, treat it, market it and price it the best, will be the ultimate winners."

AVIA would like to thank the Asia Video Summit 2020's Lead Sponsor Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for the Community Outreach Programme which provided free passes for local SMEs in the video industry and tertiary students of relevant programmes to participate in the Summit and workshops; Gold Sponsors Baker McKenzie, Brightcove, DOCOMO Digital, Google, Magnite, Nielsen, SpotX, TV5MONDE, Viaccess-Orca, WarnerMedia; Silver Sponsors Alibaba Cloud, AsiaSat, Bounty Media, Digital Ocean, InMobi, InvestHK, INVIDI, Kaltura, MEASAT, MediaKind, Nagra, Netflix, PubMatic, SES, Vuulr, Xandr.

HKTDC to Host Five Major Annual Events in Early December

HONG KONG, Nov 19, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is staging five industry-leading events online in early December, namely the HKTDC SmartBiz Expo, HKTDC Hong Kong International Franchising Show, the Business of IP Asia Forum (BIP Asia Forum), DesignInspire, and the Asian E-tailing Summit. Through these brand-new online platforms, numerous industry elite speakers will look at the current business practices of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and examine how they can apply innovative technologies and creative thinking to address the challenges of an evolving market landscape, and to help strengthen their development during the pandemic and beyond.

HKTDC Assistant Executive Director Stephen Liang said: "In light of the global pandemic, several HKTDC events are going online, but this doesn't impede our efforts to provide the latest market information and create business networking opportunities. We have been encouraged by the way different industries have proactively participated in our online activities, which helped them make good progress even under the current difficult situation. In order to enhance the competitiveness of local SMEs, the HKTDC is staging virtual events about e-commerce, digital transformation, franchising, intellectual property (IP) and creative design in December. Our goal is to help companies continue to grasp new business opportunities under the new normal."

SmartBiz Expo and International Franchising Show – Reimagine and Reinvent

The fourth HKTDC SmartBiz Expo and the sixth Hong Kong International Franchising Show will be held online from 2 to 4 December, providing a one-stop platform to support SMEs in exploring innovative business solutions and management optimisation technologies that can enhance both productivity and competitiveness. Under the theme "Reimagine, Reinvent", the virtual event will bring industry leaders together to share their insights at a series of webinars covering areas such as the stay-at-home economy, challenges under the new normal, boosting productivity, and capturing new business opportunities.

The first webinar on day one will be "T-Chat: Riding the wave of the Stay-at-Home Economy and Managing a Remote Business". Robert Glazer, Founder and CEO of Acceleration Partners, will share insights into corporate cultures under work-from-home arrangements, human resource (HR) transformation and supporting corporations in adjusting to the new normal. Not only is Mr Glazer a renowned thought leader in corporate culture, he is also a bestselling author and renowned speaker. He ranked second on Glassdoor's list of top CEOs for SMEs in 2018, and was on the Forbes list of 20 Speakers for 2017.

Many people showed a preference for staying at home during the pandemic, with e-commerce platforms helping users to efficiently access all basic necessities. This in turn boosted the development of the stay-at-home economy, where enterprises need to attract customers looking to shop from home and upgrade their delivery and pickup processes at the same time. This trend will be examined in a webinar titled "Winning the E-Commerce Race – Re-creating a Brand New Customer Experience". Gordon Lam, Board Executive Director at Bonjour Holdings Limited, and Angel Cheng, Business Development Manager at Starling Labs Limited (SHOPLINE), will share their thinking on the growth of the stay-at-home economy and the market strategies that can help enterprises capture opportunities. In another webinar, "Redefining Work under COVID-19", Peter Lee, Head of Corporate Business at Microsoft Hong Kong Limited, will examine the technological ways to enhance corporate productivity under work-from-home arrangements.

Other webinars will focus on e-commerce, marketing, artificial intelligence (AI) and big data applications, cyber security, domestic sales and 5G technology. The SmartBiz Expo also includes activities related to corporate transformation, with various seminars, programmes and workshops supporting SMEs to be future-ready.

In addition, a one-year online promotion programme called "Connect with Smart Advisors" will be launched, enabling experts in innovation and technology to virtually demonstrate their products and technological solutions on the SmartBiz Expo, Hong Kong International Franchising Show and hktdc.com Sourcing websites, helping SMEs to seize new business opportunities in the face of the pandemic.

BIP Asia Forum boosts competitiveness of enterprises

Addressing the importance of IP trading and research collaborations in corporate development and adaptation to changes, the 10th BIP Asia Forum will be held from 3 to 4 December under theme "Open Innovation: Driving Collaboration in Times of Change". Jointly organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the HKTDC and the Hong Kong Design Centre, the two-day event will feature about 60 international IP experts and business leaders sharing on the latest industry trends.

Collaboration is essential during these challenging times, with many businesses having to make significant changes in order to survive. This development will be in focus at the keynote session on the first day of the forum, which will look at how open innovation drives collaboration at this critical juncture. Yancey Strickler, Co-Founder and Former CEO of Kickstarter, will share his experience in creating Kickstarter, a global crowdfunding platform that has brought innovators together and created value through innovation and partnerships.

As companies face up to increasingly fierce global competition, establishing new ways of collaboration between nations, industries and individuals has become a vital business strategy. This topic will be explored at a 3 December plenary session with the theme "Creating IP Values through Collaboration". It will feature a discussion from industry experts including John Mulgrew, VP, Deputy General Counsel & Chief Intellectual Property, Lenovo; Christina Petersson, Chief Intellectual Property Officer, Ericsson; and Beat Weibel, Chief IP Counsel and Group Senior Vice President, Siemens AG.

At the Global Tech Summit on the second day of the forum, Li Zexiang and Gary Chan, professors from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, will be joined by Alexander Ng, Vice President of Tencent Healthcare, to discuss emerging technologies that are likely to reshape economies and redefine industries.

Complementing the forum's main programme, a new session called InspoTalk will be launched on 2 December, the day before the event opens. It will feature industry experts discussing a range of IP-related topics, such as working with social media influencers, and the challenges and opportunities resulting from the pandemic.

This year's forum will also kick off the third edition of the open innovation competition "IPHatch Hong Kong", which features past winners and IP experts from renowned technology companies as speakers. They will share on ways to enhance corporate value and realise growth potential. The 2020 competition will spotlight digitalisation, smart city, and the internet of things; with participating start-ups encouraged to unleash their creativity and expand existing patented technologies to new business areas.

Asian E-tailing Summit captures latest marketing strategies

E-tailing is a rapidly developing industry that offers business opportunities to enterprises – a development spotlighted at the Asian E-tailing Summit. Under the theme of "Embracing Change and Unlocking Opportunities in the New Digital World", this year's summit will be held online from 9 to 11 December, serving as a one-stop platform for participants to explore the latest e-tailing trends.

To keep enterprises abreast of the latest developments, close to 40 speakers from around the world will share their insights. The summit's first session, "Cross-border E-commerce in the New Digital Era", will feature heavyweight speakers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan. They will examine a go-to-market strategy that enables companies to reach scattered markets through a cost-effective cross-border e-commerce model. Nitin Navneet Tatiwala, Marketing Managing Director for Product, Solutions & eCommerce for the AMEA (Asia, Middle East and Africa) region at FedEx Express, will share on how an international logistics service provider helps online merchants expand into new markets and speed up the flow of products to customers around the world through cross-border e-commerce. This will be followed by the "Seeking Business Success in a Data-driven Economy" session, at which professionals from Singapore, the Philippines and Myanmar will explain how to use of data analytics to optimise business operations, improve efficiency and identify new opportunities. Greg Wong, Director of Analytics, Platform and Technology for the Centre of Excellence at SAP Greater China, will depict the importance of data analytics for achieving market leadership.

Blockchain technology, which provides a methodology for storing and using customer profile data that has the potential to reshape the field of customer relationship management (CRM), will be examined at a session titled "Blockchain's Role in Customer Relationship Management", where local start-ups and experts from Germany and Vietnam will look into how the technology can improve current CRM systems and solve some of the supply chain-related issues faced by enterprises.

The second day of the summit will feature three sessions, namely "The Rise and the Reach of Mobile Commerce", "Making the Customer Journey a Personal Experience" and "Navigating the Future of Omnichannel". At the first session, Kazuhisa Iwamoto, Director, Business Creation Department, Smart-Life Division, NTT DOCOMO INC., will explain how 5G can contribute to the development of mobile commerce, while a representative from United States e-commerce expert And Luxe Inc. will analyse how mobile commerce is tapping into the huge mobile-user market, with demonstrations of live stream shopping. The second session will see Japanese personal care brand Sparty share on how it creates tailor-made messages and content in digital customer engagement strategies. The third session will feature a leading Nigerian omnichannel fashion store, PayPorte, whose founder and CEO Eyo Bassey will explore how businesses can adopt omnichannel strategies to connect with customers and stay competitive as e-commerce evolves.

On the summit's final day, Euromonitor International, Shopify and other online marketing firms will provide advisory services to companies that are interested in setting up own e-commerce platforms. Attendees can also consult experts in the question-and-answer session, getting real-time suggestions on developing an e-commerce business.

"Innovation Never Stops. Our Digitalization strategy is simple, it not only about machines and technologies, but also about talent and customer experience. We are putting people at the centre of the DX Journey, and truly believe it is people's skills and their ability to learn, adapt, change and innovate that makes any technology implementation successful," said Daniel Kwong, Chief Information and Innovation Officer from CITIC Telecom CPC.

"We see digitalization as a part of the company's daily routine; growing with it and evolving with it has become second nature amidst the growing digital economy." said Joe Yau, CEO at OpenRice.

"As one of the key components of our DX strategy, we are revamping our TrustCSITM portfolio to fulfill customer demand during their digital transformation journey. Our security service portfolio now consists of four key service scopes – Device Management Service, Threat Detection and Response Service, Behaviour Analysis Service, and Professional Service." said Taylor Lam, Senior Vice President of Product Development & Management at CITIC Telecom CPC.

CITIC Telecom CPC Supports OpenRice's Digital Transformation Journey
OpenRice has been going through a digital transformation journey in recent years, where they have gone from an online dining guide to a FoodTech Ecosystem. With its success in digital transformation, OpenRice has won three IDC Digital Transformation Awards – for Omni-experience Innovator – Hong Kong, and DX CEO – Hong Kong and Regional.

The IDC Digital Transformation Awards recognise the achievements of organisations that distinguished themselves with notable and measurable success in the execution of their organisation's digital transformation (DX) initiatives across the seven DX masteries and who make significant efforts to transform or disrupt the market.

During the digital shift, OpenRice redeveloped its Table Booking System into a native app and website, connecting consumers, restaurants and partners in the F&B and non-F&B sectors. The new initiative included the transformation of a table booking system into one-stop merchant platform "OpenRice Biz" to support restaurants' dining business journey, improve the availability of market insight solutions for merchants, as well as provide agile and digital business operations. Enabling technologies, including big data analytics and AI, were adopted to empower the initiative.

"With a majority of food and beverage merchants lacking the technology know-how and budget, OpenRice as a platform has taken the leading position to innovate and enhance services for restaurants. Thus, we introduced the OpenRice Biz Platform, where restaurant merchants can choose from a suite of dining solutions or have customised plans tailored specifically to better fit their needs. This was how our journey of digital transformation began," said Joe Yau, CEO at OpenRice. "We see digitalization as a part of the company's daily routine; growing with it and evolving with it has become second nature amidst the growing digital economy."

Delivering the Most Important Package in the Dining Journey: TRUST
As OpenRice continued to expand its platform business with increasing traffic, transactions and data volume, a more reliable security solution was needed. This is where CITIC Telecom CPC came in to assist OpenRice with their security and network system.

"With increasing cyber-attacks and phishing emails, as well as a rising amount of data usage due to the expansion of our service offerings, we needed to enhance our security level and data transmission," said Yau. "With CITIC Telecom CPC's TrustCSI(TM) UTM and Email Protection services, plus its TrueCONNECT(TM) MPLS connectivity service in place, OpenRice now enjoys reliable data flow and better data protection to help safeguard our business."

"CITIC Telecom CPC always strives to serve our customers with strong support for their business digital transformation, and we are glad that our TrustCSI(TM) information security services and TrueCONNECT(TM) private network solutions have helped to support OpenRice's secure dining platform," said Mr. Taylor Lam, Senior Vice President of Product Development & Management at CITIC Telecom CPC. "The OpenRice FoodTech ecosystem redefines users' total dining experience and services merchants' business operations, as well as sales and marketing strategies. Appreciating its success, CITIC Telecom CPC nominated OpenRice for the IDC Digital Transformation Awards and we feel honoured that it has won awards in three categories."

Since the next generation of digital business will be run by underlying data, there is a crucial security element that now needs to be considered – cybersecurity and a company's networks and systems will need to be combined. Thus, security will no longer just be another system requirement, it will be one of the key enablers of digital transformation.

"As one of the key components of our DX strategy, we are revamping our TrustCSI(TM) portfolio to fulfill customer demand during their digital transformation journey," said Lam. "With new additional services and technology enhancements, our security service portfolio now consists of four key service scopes – Device Management Service, Threat Detection and Response Service, Behaviour Analysis Service, and Professional Service. Customers can now enjoy comprehensive security solution offerings, and select the most suitable services to help them digitally transform their operations."

– Quickly launch a response to critical incidents

The new SOAR service can:

Professional Services
People are the key to any enterprises DX journey, and CITIC Telecom CPC can help by providing the resources to help client personnel learn and understand fast changing policy and compliance changes. New survey shows Philippines among highest in online piracy in Southeast Asia

MANILA, Oct 15, 2020 – (ACN Newswire) – A new study of the online content viewing behaviour of Filipino consumers, has found that 49% access streaming piracy websites or torrent sites. The levels of piracy went as high as 53% within the 25-34 age demographic. The survey commissioned by the Asia Video Industry Association's Coalition Against Piracy (CAP) and conducted by YouGov, found that 47% of consumers who accessed piracy sites cancelled their subscriptions to both local and international content services.

The levels of piracy in the Philippines now dwarfs neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia which have both seen substantial reductions in online piracy over the last 12 months. In Indonesia a similar YouGov survey found a massive 55% reduction in Indonesians accessing piracy services with 28% of consumers admitting to accessing piracy websites compared to 63% in 2019. In Malaysia, a YouGov survey found a 64% decline in users accessing piracy sites when compared to a similar YouGov survey in 2019.

In both countries a key variable for the decline in online piracy levels was the government's proactive piracy site blocking initiative. In Malaysia more than half (55%) of online consumers noticed that a piracy service had been blocked by the Malaysian government, which subsequently influenced viewing habits with 49% stating that they no longer accessed piracy services and 40% saying that they now 'rarely accessed' piracy services as a result of the site blocking.

A Bill currently before the Philippine Senate (Bill #497) entitled the 'Online Infringement Act' proposes a regulatory site blocking mechanism which would empower the authorities to ensure that ISPs take "reasonable steps to disable access to sites whenever these sites are reported to be infringing copyright or facilitating copyright infringement."

The recent YouGov survey suggests that a regulatory site blocking mechanism would be supported by the majority of Filipino consumers. When given choices of what they thought were effective measures of reducing piracy behaviour, 53% of Filipinos agree that a "government order or law for ISPs to block piracy websites" would be the most effective.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said, "The ill effects of online piracy cannot be underestimated. We have been an advocate of content streaming through legal sites only through our #PlayItRight program. This advocacy educates people on the impacts of online piracy and on making the right choices when it comes to online consumption."

For his part, Atty Teodoro Pascua, Deputy Director General, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) said, "The wide variety of legal services in the Philippines which provide premium entertainment content are reliable and importantly are legal. The piracy alternatives fund crime groups, put consumers at risk of malware infection and are unreliable. Piracy only benefits the criminal organisations who are behind these illegal websites."

Neil Gane, the General Manager of AVIA's Coalition Against Piracy (CAP) commented, "We are confident that Indonesia and Malaysia will rise to become market leaders in video IP protection in the region, as a result of their site-blocking strategies. We are also confident that other countries in Asia, such as the Philippines, will take note and follow suit, boosting the growth of legal consumption of Filipino and international content."

When asked about the negative consequences of online piracy, Filipino consumers placed funding crime groups (55%), loss of jobs in the creative industry (50%) and malware risks (49%) as their top three concerns.
