CITIC Telecom CPC’s DataHOUSE AR Remote Hand wins Augmented & Virtual Reality Award for Telecommunications at SBR TEA 2021

SINGAPORE, May 5, 2021 – (ACN Newswire) – CITIC Telecom International CPC Limited (CITIC Telecom CPC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited (SEHK: 1883), is honored to announce that its innovative product, DataHOUSE™ AR Remote Hand, bagged the Augmented & Virtual Reality – Telecommunications Award during Singapore Business Review's (SBR) recently concluded Technology Excellence Awards (TEA).

DataHOUSE™ AR Remote Hand is a highly practical, productive, and effective tool for field engineers that allows them to do virtual collaborations with offsite members whilst streaming data in real-time. The technology employs AR glasses to allow field engineers to conveniently retrieve encrypted backend data from backend systems, so that they can conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and field operations speedily. With virtual access to equipment history or status, service manuals, complicated technical procedures, troubleshooting logs, and graphics via a designated QR code for each device, they can utilise hand gestures to review a device's historical record to speed up analysis and troubleshooting, minimising downtime and costs whilst boosting field engineer productivity by up to 50%.

Traditionally, field engineers communicated with back-end support using email or phone. This makes it challenging to describe a troubleshooting situation. The AR Remote Hand solves this problem by allowing back-end engineers to view real-time images streamed via AR glasses through an AR operations console. Its powerful video conferencing feature also offers engineers instant support and fosters off-site collaboration between global operations and maintenance teams. It also overcomes the challenges of time zone, languages, distance barriers, and professional skill sets in multi-technology environments.

On the customer side, the current pandemic has made it difficult for enterprises' IT staff to travel to data centres and manage their equipment. Through its AR glasses, CITIC Telecom CPC's DataHOUSE AR Remote Hand can serve as the customers' remote hands. Not only does it show the status of on-site equipment as customers watch in real-time from offices or other locations through the AR operations console, but it also lets customers provide live instructions to CITIC Telecom CPC's on-site engineers as they troubleshoot equipment issues without customers being physically in the data centre.

AR Remote Hand solution is the brainchild of CITIC Telecom CPC's professional teams of data scientists and research and development experts. Combining their knowledge with experts from the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), which was founded by the Hong Kong government to enhance the city's competitiveness in technology-based industries through applied research, this collaboration has been very successful in creating a groundbreaking technology to revolutionize management and maintenance in data center scenarios.

CITIC Telecom CPC is now building additional enhancements in the new version of AR Remote Hand by expanding its range of supported vendor equipment and adding on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to extend more service coverage. As one of the trusted partners of leading multinational and business enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region, it maintains its integrity as the premier connectivity, cloud services, information security, and data centre provider in the world.

The Technology Excellence Awards was presented by Singapore Business Review via video conferencing throughout the second and third week of April. This year's nominations were judged by of Daryl Pereira, Head of Cyber at KPMG; Cheang Wai Keat, Partner, Consultant at Ernst & Young Advisory Pte. Ltd.; Henry Tan, Group Chief Executive Officer and Chief Innovation Officer at Nexia TS; Sivakumar Saravan, Senior Partner at Crowe Singapore; Cecil Su, Director, Head of Cybersecurity of BDO Singapore.

Digital Week Northeast Asia 2021: How will Japan’s Data Centre market play out?

Japan, May 3, 2021 – (ACN Newswire) – Data centre penetration in Japan is largely concentrated in two regions–Tokyo and Osaka.

However, post COVID-19, with the ubiquitous use of technology across the length and breadth of Japan, there is a growing clamour for data centres to be set up in other locations. Addressing delegates at Digital Week Northeast Asia on the topic of "Growth projections for Japan DC Hubs," Takashi Kondo, Product & Sales Director, Asia, Colt Data Centre Services, pointed out that currently data centre hubs in Japan are concentrated in a 100 kilometre radius around Tokyo.

"There are many factors but the big ones are submarine landing stations, which are close to the Tokyo Bay area," he said.

In Japan, there are more than 20 international submarine cable landing stations with cables connecting the United Station, Australia, Russia, Pan-Asia, Europe and Africa. Japan is well-connected with submarine cables, with even more projects on the way, including Southeast Asia-Japan Cable 2, JUPITER, Japan-Guam-Australia North, and Okinawa Cellular Cable.

In 2020, NEC Corporation, a Japanese multinational information technology and electronics company, announced a 9,400-kilometer ADC submarine cable that will connect China (Hong Kong and Guangdong province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It is also interesting to ntoe that Osaka has a long history, as the capital in olden times, and also as a gateway for international exchange. From the early-modern era, it prospered as a central area for business and finance and played a large role in the growth and development of Japan's industrial economy.

"The demand has gone up since the onset of the pandemic and data centres have been driven by submarine cables as well as land availability around Tokyo and Osaka," according to Hessam Seifi, Managing Director, DC PRO BV. In October 2020, AirTrunk announced a new 300 MW hyperscale data centre in Tokyo.

Challenges in DC penetration

Even as the demand is increasing in the interiors of Japan, companies are a bit hesitant when it comes to setting up data centres. "Land and power requirements are a challenge in smaller regional hubs," noted Seifi. All that could change.

Edward Tay, CEO, Sistema Asia Capital is of the view that a lot depends on how much content services can be provided locally.

There is also a need to understand the local dynamics in Japan. "We are building a land bank and we work closely with the ecosystem as they are in the best position to provide local knowledge," pointed out Kondo.

So, what are the trends playing out in the data centre segment in Japan? What is the marketshare of hyperscale versus colocation providers versus local organisations?

Seifi is of the view that the Japan data centre market is dominated by international cloud providers such as Amazon. In Asia Pacific, the trends are similar to other parts of the world.

"Increasing hyperscalers- American as well as Chinese cloud providers such as Alibaba, Huawei dominate the market," said Daryl Dunbar, CEO of Dunbar Enterprises. Colocation service providers will keep growing, as enterprises are still moving to the cloud. "A lot of businesses have not yet adopted the cloud. In the next 5 years, growing demand in the colo segment," stated Kondo.

Excluding China, Japan is Asia's biggest data center market, with an estimated value of US$7 billion by 2025.

Sustainability push

The Japanese government has committed to the decarbonisation goals by committing to a greater usage of Renewable Energy (RE). Recently, Japan said that it aims to double its inter-regional power grid capacity by adding up to 23 GW to help speed expansion of renewable energy such as offshore wind farms. "Japan is strong in wind power and is also the second largest PV market after China," said Tay.

Japan has substantial coastline and has enormous potential in offshore wind. The Japanese government has introduced legislation to strengthen the regulatory environment for offshore wind and is committed to work together with private sector to promote offshore wind power generation in both domestic and international markets.

Lack of understanding of cyber-related matters, lack of effective supervision and issues like oversight have increased the potential for cyber violence in Africa.

Given that African countries are among the most vulnerable to cyberattacks, it is in their best interests to participate more actively in international fora that are currently forming norms for state behaviour in cyberspace.

DouYin Develops Interest E-commerce, Joy Spreader’s Marketing Technology Presents Promising Future

HONG KONG, Apr 13, 2021 – (ACN Newswire) – On April 8, DouYin E-commerce staged its first Ecosystem Conference in Guangzhou. In the keynote speech, Kang Zeyu, President of DouYin E-commerce, proposed the concept of "interest e-commerce" – a type of e-commerce driven by people's passion for quality life and aiming to satisfy consumers' implicit needs while improving their life quality.

In recent years, algorithm-based interest recommendation technology has continued to advance, automatically linking massive Internet content and Internet users with an enormous amount of commodities. This has also laid an ideal foundation for the connection of "people", "goods" and "platforms", the three major elements of new consumption in the mobile Internet era. DouYin proposed the very concept of "nterest e-commerce" in view of the critical role played by interest recommendation technology in increasing conversion rates, guiding consumer demand, and enhancing user experience.

This coincides with Joy Spreader's (06988) philosophy of data, algorithms and interest recommendation technology serving online news consumption. By analyzing commodities, video contents, and behaviors of fans, Joy Spreader recommends to Internet celebrities products that cater to their fans' interests so that products match consumers, thereby helping a great number of less-known Internet celebrities to monetize through "interest e-commerce" and helping manufacturers with precise and targeted distribution by applying "interest e-commerce".

Joy Spreader is one of the first marketing technology companies to develop video-based e-commerce. As early as January 2019, Joy Spreader became one of the first service providers to monetize through providing video content under DouYin, as well as one of the first companies in the industry to apply interest recommendation technology to carry out performance marketing services.

In the first E-commerce Ecosystem Conference, DouYin said it would launch three supporting programs next year to help 1,000 merchants achieve annual sales of over RMB100 million, 10,000 high-quality celebrities to achieve annual sales of over RMB10 million, and 100 high-quality products to reach annual sales of over RMB100 million.
DouYin also said that, according to third-party calculations, the GMV of interest e-commerce will exceed RMB9.5 trillion by 2023 with an increasing number of players in the e-commerce industry switching to interest e-commerce.

The enormous future market space also brings great development opportunities to marketing. Joy Spreader, a marketing technology company with an early entry and a technology path in line with future trends, has already obtained first-mover advantages. According to its annual results, video-based e-commerce, mainly comprising non-live streaming e-commerce to sell goods in DouYin, is becoming an essential driver for its revenue and profit growth of Joy Spreader. In 2020, Joy Spreader's annual GMV of e-commerce products reached HK$594 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 353.92%. The ratio of gross profit of e-commerce has doubled from 15.75% in 2019 to 31.50%.

Committed to building an "interest e-commerce ecosystem", DouYin serves top Internet celebrities to enhance presence, improve quality, and enlarge scale. However, in the trillion-yuan market, in addition to top Internet celebrities, the less-known content publishers are in urgent need of monetization, and ecological service providers like Joy Spreader are able to provide sound services for them. Services of Joy Spreader can truly help more DouYin accounts monetize in the DouYin ecosystem, further enhancing user retention, user activity, and becoming a critical part of the DouYin ecosystem.

MMC Corporation Berhad Chooses Ramco Systems to Digitally Transform Five Ports in Malaysia’s Single Largest Port Transformation Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 8, 2021 – (ACN Newswire) – Leading Malaysian utility and infrastructure conglomerate MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC) announced that it has embarked on a major digital transformation of five ports, in partnership with global software solutions leader, Ramco Systems.

Photo caption clockwise from top left: Dato' Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Group Managing Director of MMC Corporation Berhad, Mr. P.R Venketrama Raja, Chairman of Ramco Systems Limited and Mr. Virender Aggarwal, Chief Executive Officer of Ramco Systems Limited during the virtual signing ceremony of Memorandum of Agreement on the Enterprise Resource Planning digital transformation.

The digital transformation will consolidate and standardise processes of MMC's ports, which include Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), Johor Port Berhad, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, Penang Port Sdn Bhd and Tanjung Bruas Port Sdn Bhd. The group-wide transformation was awarded based on the successful implementation of Ramco integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system at one of Malaysia's most advanced container terminal – PTP.

This technological transformation programme will propel Malaysia to the forefront of global best-in-class ports – which plays a crucial role in mitigating supply chain challenges, including recent disruptions due to COVID-19.

Building on an earlier implementation by Ramco Systems of an ERP system for PTP where about 90% of the system has achieved Go-Live in phases over the past 10 months, the enhanced rollout will digitalise processes, while providing real-time business information. MMC will also be able to consolidate various business support functions (namely Finance, Human Resource, Enterprise Asset Management, Supply Chain Management, and Logistics Management) across ports into a single integrated ERP system – all accessible on an integrated dashboard.

Over 8,000 MMC employees across the ports will be plugged into the platform on their computers/mobile devices which now eliminates duplication errors and other bottlenecks, allowing efficient business processes and enhanced data visibility.

The system will also include smart features such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), which will provide employees with greater insight as well as predictive alerts and chatbots which can reduce human error and save time. This will lay the foundation for MMC's broader strategy to enhance business experience to our customers and suppliers.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed several trends into the spotlight, such as e-commerce and strengthening the supply chain. More than ever, we see the importance of ensuring our ports remain efficient and capable of quick turnaround, and we had been looking for a partner which could provide a scalable solution for all our ports.

With the support from Ramco Systems, MMC is committed to accelerate digital transformation that delivers efficiency, productivity and reliability within our ports to provide the best-in-class service for our customers. The implementation of a common system and integrated technology platform will further maximise synergies and allow all our ports to share expertise and benefit from economies of scale. We aim to leverage on technology as a key differentiator in order to gain competitive edge and add value to our stakeholders," said Dato' Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Group Managing Director MMC Corporation Berhad.

P.R. Venketrama Raja, Chairman, Ramco Group, said, "It is a great honour to work alongside the MMC Group to help upgrade its ports. The partnership is a significant milestone in Ramco's history; the implementation of Ramco's systems will optimise operational efficiency at MMC Group, thereby translating into faster turnarounds at Malaysian ports and impacting Malaysian trade."

"We at Ramco have established a strong Malaysian presence through our many years of engagements with multiple large conglomerates within the country, and this engagement was only possible through the hard work of the Ramco team in providing digital transformation to PTP. We look forward to working closely with the MMC team and am confident Ramco's software will bring great value to MMC's ports," added Raja.

Digital Week North Asia will focus on explosive growth in cloud and datacenter technologies across Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. These markets have long been leaders in technology for not just Asia but the rest of the world. While some of Asia's emerging economies like Indonesia and Thailand are making great strides in the cloud market, corporations still prefer mature economies in North Asia that can provide them with a strong power network and more reliable uptime. Because multiple deep-sea cables between the USA and Asia pass through these countries, the island also provides a geographic advantage to the American tech giants.
